Triathlete Anabel Knoll fights with staples at the European Cup!
In the busy world of triathlon, Anabel Knoll, a professional triathlete from Ingolstadt, recently caused a stir at the European Cup Triathlon in Alanya, Türkiye. With a 10th place, she improved significantly after returning from a five-month break from competition. Two weeks ago she was ranked 21st, which shows that the comeback is well underway. The 27-year-old previously had to deal with a stress fracture in her thigh, but her determination and training in Tenerife has started to pay off. [Donaukurier].
She did brilliantly in her swimming and came into the first transition zone in fifth place. Nevertheless, she had to accept some setbacks on the bike, which was 18.75 kilometers long. What was particularly challenging was the dangerous mix of a large group of riders and TV stations' risky motorcycles. To make matters worse, Knoll got a staple in her big toe, forcing her to take off her shoe and losing valuable time.
The return to form
Although Knoll is dissatisfied with her season so far, she notices that her running form is slowly returning. This slight progress gives the athlete new courage. “I feel better, but I still have difficulty sprinting,” she admits. Their plan is to get back into action fully in spring 2026. She has also thought about ending the winter break early, but the next challenge is the World Cup races in South Korea and Brazil, which place not only great sporting but also financial demands on the athlete.
Triathlon is truly a fascinating sport that best embodies the spirit of competition. It combines three disciplines – swimming, cycling and running – in one competition. The roots of triathlon go back to the early 1970s, when the San Diego Track Club organized the first competition in the USA World Triathlon. In the future, sport will continue to shape the big stage of the Olympic Games. The first Olympic debut for triathlon took place in Sydney in 2000 and its popularity has only increased since then.
Outlook for the coming season
It is now important for Knoll to focus on reconstruction. She already has her concrete plan in mind: at the end of February or beginning of March 2024 she would like to enter the competition for world ranking points and the Olympic qualification for Paris 2028. It will be exciting to see how her form develops in the coming months and whether she will be able to achieve her ambitious goals.
So the world of triathlon remains exciting for fans and athletes alike, always moving and always somewhat unpredictable. We keep our fingers crossed for Anabel Knoll that she can overcome the challenges of the sport and be back on the podium soon.
