TSV 1860 Munich II: Move to Grünwalder Straße before the Bayernliga!

The U21 of TSV 1860 Munich, also known as 1860 Munich II, is facing a change: The team has to temporarily move its home games back to Grünwalder Straße due to unfavorable circumstances. This reports Mercury. The gravel arena in Gilching, the originally planned venue, cannot be played due to damage to the turf. Here, worms have severely damaged the subsoil, which requires renovation. Gilching's department head Stefan Schwartling has already announced that this work could take up to six months.

The U21 had already played a friendly against FC Ingolstadt II in their new home stadium, which was lost 3-1. Until and including September, the home games will have to be played at pitch 5 of the training ground at Grünwalder Straße 114. The return to the gravel arena is targeted for October, but as I said, everything depends on the turf renovation.

A change of venue

Originally, the Lions' U21s were supposed to play in the Kies Arena, which proved necessary due to the U19s' promotion to the Bundesliga. The tight space situation at the training ground meant that the U21s had to play some of their games in Gilching, as the U17s and U19s also need more training places. Frank Schmöller, the U21 head coach, commented cooperatively on this change and emphasized that setting the course for the young talents this year is important.

With many new faces in the team, including two professionals from the third division squad and several former U19 players, the squad is strong and well positioned. However, Schmöller has not formulated a fixed season goal for the coming Bayernliga season. Given the strong competition, he knows: “The league is robust, it won’t be easy.”

Bayernliga season 2025/26

The Bayernliga starts on July 20, 2025 and the U21's first appearance will take place on July 16 against SV Kirchanschöring. Another highlight will be the game against Türkgücü Munich on August 29th, which many may remember from previous seasons. The current circumstances represent a particular challenge for the Lions' U21, but the team is determined to give their best in this transition phase and to introduce the talent to men's football.

In total, the Bayernliga will consist of 34 teams in two seasons, with the U21s from 1860 Munich competing in the Bayernliga South field, which also includes teams such as FC Eintracht Bamberg and the promoted teams from FC Sportfreunde Schwaig and FC Sturm Hauzenberg. This will show how the U21s can perform and what progress the young players will make on the pitch. This dynamic league promises plenty of drama and exciting encounters in the coming season, with the fixture lists set to be published in the next two weeks, according to the Bavarian Football Association.
