ESV Kaufbeuren: New team, new hope for the DEL2 season!
It's that time again! ESV Kaufbeuren is in the starting blocks and will open its season in the DEL2 on time next Friday at 8 p.m. against the Weiden team. In the first home game on Sunday at 5 p.m. the team will face the Eispirates from Crimmitschau. After an unsatisfactory preseason, those responsible have decided to completely overhaul the team and bring a breath of fresh air into the game. Loud Mercury Patrick Reimer, among others, was installed as the new sporting director, who also takes on the role of managing director.
Apart from a few players, almost only new faces can be seen in the newly structured team. The test games in preparation were mixed, but the results show that ESV Kaufbeuren is ready to cause surprises. In a total of five test games, the players fought for their form: While they lost against the Starbulls Rosenheim with 1:3, there was a ray of hope against the Bietigheim Steelers with a clear 5:2. The duel against the Glasgow Clan at the Warrior Cup with a 5-2 win also made the hearts of the fans beat faster. The final test against the Blue Devils Weiden ended with an impressive 4:1.
A new coaching team and a breath of fresh air
With a new coaching team, led by an experienced coaching staff, the team should not only shine again in terms of sport, but also develop enthusiasm among the fans again. The goalkeeper position will be taken over by the duo Daniel Fießinger and Rihards Babulis, with particular hope for the health of the latter. The team has also repositioned itself in defense: six players are available without reinforcements from Munich, including the promising Nico Appendino, who is considered a potential top defender.
Let's take a look at the new strikers! Names like Joe Cassetti, Tyson McLellan, Henri Kanninen and D'Artagnan Joly are already causing a lot of anticipation among fans. There was also an exciting cooperation with Red Bull Munich, in which the talents Thomas Heigl, Rio Kaiser, Philipp Krening and Philip Sinn were licensed. This shows that ESV Kaufbeuren is committed to the further development of young players and is working with EV Füssen to develop its own talents.
Financial stability and new goals
The DEL2 season 2025/26 also brings with it some changes, such as the promotion of Düsseldorfer EG and the Bietigheim Steelers. In order to survive in this dynamic league, ESV Kaufbeuren's sponsorship strategy was revised. Long-term partnerships were extended and new sponsors were acquired, which secured the club an economic base of around 3.0 million euros for the season. This promises a prosperous future!
The forecast for the new season? The chances are not bad! ESV Kaufbeuren is considered a potential surprise team, with the clear goal of securing a place in the play-offs. We have an exciting year ahead and fans can look forward to exciting games. The anticipation can be felt among players and supporters alike when the motto finally comes again on Friday: “Forward ESV Kaufbeuren!”
In addition, it is reported that the DEL2 is introducing some innovations, including a sustainability concept for the clubs, which will provide a breath of fresh air not only on the ice but also off it Ice Hockey News confirmed.
