Little patients: Teddy Bear Hospital opens in Kaufbeuren!
In the coming days, the teddy bear hospital at the Kaufbeuren Clinic will come to life - an event intended for children between the ages of four and seven on September 27th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Here the little ones can bring their beloved cuddly toys, which have a few aches and pains, to put them in the capable hands of future doctors. Accompanied by medical students and doctors from the clinic, the cuddly toys are playfully examined, treated and nursed back to health. The aim of this campaign is to relieve children of their fear of going to the doctor. AllgäuHit reports on a varied world of experiences in which the children can learn everything about the process of visiting a doctor in four stations - admission, diagnosis, treatment and discharge.
In total, the visit lasts about an hour and registration takes place at the Teddy Bear reception. Since places are limited, the “first come, first served” principle applies here. It is important that participation is free, but only with confirmed registration. Further information about registration can be found on the clinic's website.
A global concept
The idea of the teddy bear hospital is not new and has spread worldwide over the years. Originally from Sweden, it offers children in Germany the opportunity to have their sick stuffed animals examined by 'Teddy-Docs'. This group consists of students of human medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and nursing trainees who work on a voluntary basis in this project close to their hearts. The Federal Ministry of Health emphasizes that this commitment aims to take away children's fear of doctors and medical treatments.
A look at the little patients shows that not only teddy bears, but also other cuddly toys such as Elephanti, Pandi or Zebri are brought to the hospital, each with their own special “injuries” - be it a trunk that needs to be stowed away, a stomach ache from too many sweets or lost strips. Charité describes how children learn a lot about health through the care and struggles of their cuddly toys and also receive the necessary care instructions for their “patients” to return home.
Together for a better future
The Teddy Bear Hospital is much more than just a fun event - it makes an important contribution to children's health education and teaches the youngest in our society that doctors are not scary. The future doctors also have the opportunity to gain initial experience in dealing with patients, which at the same time highlights the 'teddy nurses' and 'teddy doctors'.
If you would like to be there on September 27th at the Kaufbeuren Clinic, you should register quickly at the Teddy Bear reception, as places are in great demand. Let's work together to ensure that the cuddly toys get home safely and quickly!
