87-year-old driver saved from ditch after hours seriously injured
In the district of Kulmbach, a serious accident occurred in the night of Friday, October 3, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, which was a challenge not only for those involved, but also for the emergency services. An 87-year-old driver was traveling from the Kleinrehmühle in the direction of Guttenberger Hammer with his vehicle when he got off the road in a left curve and found himself about five meters in the ditch. It was only until late Saturday afternoon that the crashed man remained undetected. Fortunately, he was found by a 56-year-old road user from the Kulmbach district and immediately alerted the emergency services, who brought the heavily hypotherized man to the clinic in order to be able to take care of him. This reports infranken.de.
The Stadtsteinach police inspection found that the driver was alone at the scene of the accident for several hours. Such incidents make it aware of how important it is to pay particular attention to the safety of older road users. Information from the ADAC clarifies that the ability to react and eyesight can decrease with increasing age. Seniors should therefore always check their driving suitability self -critically, especially since they are often more at risk than at risk of road traffic. The ADAC emphasizes that older drivers are recommended for regular medical examinations, in particular for vision, to ensure their traffic safety.
Another accident on the B85
But not only the serious accident with the 87-year-old caused excitement in the Kulmbach district. There was also a rear -end collision with three vehicles on the B85 between Kulmbach and Bayreuth. Here a VW Golf and a Hyundai stopped due to traffic when the driver of a small van (VW Crafter) recognized the situation too late and rose on the Golf. Due to the impact, the golf was pushed to the Hyundai, and both vehicles were no longer ready to drive afterwards. They had to be towed totally damaged. The driver of the VW Crafter injured his left wrist and had to be taken to the clinic. The Bayreuther Tagblatt reported on property damage of around 40,000 euros and considerable traffic disabilities in the Kulmbach - Bayreuth area, since the B85 was temporarily completely closed to rescue work.
The high number of operations and the associated loads illustrate how crucial it is that both younger and older road users have their driving skills checked regularly and actively and responsibly act in road traffic. The ADAC emphasizes that older drivers in particular are often more secure due to their forward -looking driving style, but there are also factors such as diseases and medication that can affect traffic safety. A conversation with the treating doctor is therefore advisable if health problems arise.
