The 2025 outdoor pool season in Kulmbach is officially over. On September 15th, the outdoor pool closed its doors and with it a season that attracted around 75,000 visitors. How Wiesentbote reported that the outdoor pool recorded lower visitor numbers this year compared to previous years, which was mainly due to the weather conditions. Despite these challenges, the balance sheet is impressive.

In order to best prepare the outdoor pool for the season, extensive maintenance work was carried out before the season began. This included painting, bricklaying and tiling work, as well as technical customer services. Innovations such as modernized volleyball courts and lockers for women were very well received by guests. A special thank you goes to the water rescue service and the DLRG for their free watch hours, which ensured the safety of all bathers.

Renovation and indoor swimming pool season

It doesn't take long to look forward to the next swimming moments. The indoor swimming pool season began on September 16th, offering visitors a welcome alternative during the long winter break. However, this break will be a little longer than usual because the swimming pool in the outdoor pool, which is over 50 years old, urgently needs to be renovated. Mayor Ingo Lehmann praised the “smooth transition” from the outdoor pool season to the indoor pool season and emphasized the importance of such facilities for the population.

In view of the challenges that many outdoor swimming pools in Germany are currently facing due to government funding and increased construction costs ZDF to the urgent need for comprehensive renovations. Over a third of outdoor swimming pools need to be renovated within the next five years. Many operators see the financial requirements as high and criticize the insufficient funding. This shows how important it is to view municipal pools not only as leisure activities, but also as part of public services.
