Oldtimer campers awaken nostalgic dreams at meetings at Kochelsee
After a four-year break, a very special event took place at the Kochelsee: The Germany-wide camping gold club met in the picturesque framework of the Renken campsite. The participants who appreciate simple life and the community left modern technology far behind and instead immersed in a cozy atmosphere, which was shaped by fairy lights and tablecloths from the 1970s. The anticipation for this meeting was literally noticeable, because many members always like to come together to show their old treasures and exchange memories. Merkur reports that ...
Kerstin and Ralf Möller, active members since 1996, came with their lovingly maintained Hymer B 554, named after Ralf's deceased father. Together they also collected signatures for the operators of the campsite to achieve a longer opening time. For Ralf and Kerstin, we will go to Sweden next year, where an international meeting of all oldie camp is waiting for you. Even the younger participants, such as Paula Bär and David from Nuremberg, who were there for the first time, were enthusiastic about the opportunity to spend the night with their Hymer Ducato in 1987 in parking spaces and to share nostalgic experiences.
Retro camping and community feeling
The members of the camping gold club rely on historical charm instead of modern technology. Annemarie and Karl-Heinz Paumen, founding members of the association, have been camping since the late 1950s and bring their original Westfalia caravans from 1965. After more than 55 years, the caravan is still in top shape and exudes a cozy atmosphere that is very well received by the participants. The Paumens are also passionate nature fans and like to spend time in the mountains or at the lake. Since the club was founded in 1988, the number of members has grown to 480 families, all of whom share the same passion: camping with classic cars. Anyone who has a vehicle that is older than 30 years can become a member, as well as support memberships for non-owners of historical vehicles, which makes the community even more accessible. The camping community reports that…
Nostalgia plays a special role in the camping scene, and more and more people are looking for ways to relive their childhood memories while camping. This has led to the emergence of a trend that many refer to as the “(Re)Creation Vacation.” With more than half of Millennials planning to go on nostalgia-based camping trips, campgrounds like KOA and many state parks are experiencing a surge in multi-generational bookings. Modern Nomad Gear describes how ... The return to old camping traditions not only gives fun, but also relieves the budget of the families when they camp with vintage equipment or childhood memories.
The participants of the oldie meeting were visibly happy about reunification and cohesion in their community. It was not only talked about vehicles, but also about the lifestyle that retro camping conveyed. For many, it is a retreat to escape the hustle and bustle of the modern world and to reflect on what really matters: spending time with friends and family.
