Schuhbeck in court: New allegations and long prison sentences are threatened!

Alfons Schuhbeck, the once celebrated celebrity chef, is once again in the focus of the judiciary. A new trial against him will begin at the Munich I Regional Court on June 24, 2025, and the allegations are anything but minor. Around two and a half years after his conviction for tax evasion, Schuhbeck is now confronted with massive allegations, including subsidy fraud and delaying insolvency. The evening newspaper reports that Schuhbeck could face up to five years in prison if the court classifies his actions as commercial or gang-related.

The new indictment comprises an incredible 45 volumes, most of which were admitted to trial. The allegations specifically state that Schuhbeck did not declare the insolvency of his companies in a timely manner in nine cases - and this caused considerable damage to the creditors. He is also accused of having illegally obtained subsidies amounting to 460,000 euros in 19 cases, including as Corona aid. Schuhbeck is said to have deliberately provided false information in order to secure these funds.

Schuhbeck's entrepreneurial exploits

The situation is particularly explosive because the more recent allegations also point to further financial misconduct. According to the South German newspaper Schuhbeck is said to have failed to pay health insurance contributions for his employees in almost 500 cases. The charge exceeds his previous conviction for tax evasion, which earned him a prison sentence of three years and two months.

Schuhbeck was sentenced in October 2022 after admitting to business failure. He remains free until mid-September for health reasons, giving the court more context about his numerous offenses. His earlier defense, in which he portrayed himself as a bad businessman, no longer fits with the new, serious allegations that suggest systematic fraud.

The legal situation and perspectives

Schuhbeck enters into an exchange of blows in court with the new lawyers Norbert Scharf and Joachim Eckert. Scharf has defended many prominent clients in the past, while Eckert acts as an experienced lawyer. The legal profession has the opportunity to comment on the allegations, while the court must give heavy weight to the proceedings due to the enormous volume of the files.

The public prosecutor's office has been investigating since the end of 2021 and has already written to 80 creditors. According to reports, some of Schuhbeck's companies were said to have run into difficulties as early as 2017, long before official bankruptcy was declared. The image that has formed of Schuhbeck over the years is that of a once successful managing director whose empire began to falter due to tricky financial decisions.

A busy program is planned for the coming days: four days of negotiations have already been planned and the verdict could come on July 14th. Given the seriousness of the allegations, it will be interesting to see how everything develops. Schuhbeck's former fame, which brought him to the tables of legends such as the Queen and the Beatles, now appears to be fading into the shadows of his legal battles.
