Erding Gladiators secure captain Philipp Michl for the new season!
On July 24, 2025 there will be exciting news from the ice hockey scene. The top league team Erding Gladiators has brought their captain Philipp Michl, who has been playing for the team since 2014 - except for a short break - back on board. The Landshut native performed impressively last season: In the main round he scored 32 points, including 9 goals and 23 assists, and he also showed his class in the playoffs with 8 points. David Whitney, the Gladiators' sporting director, praises Michl as an indispensable captain who leads the team confidently and makes clear statements.
While the captain stays in Erding, the talented defender Kai Zernikel moves from Herne to Halle in the league. The 21-year-old, who comes from the Schwenningen youth team, already has considerable experience, having already played 45 DEL games in his career. Last season, Zernikel contributed 1 goal and 5 assists in 38 games for the Miners. Zernikel has also played 36 games for EHC Freiburg in the DEL2. Christian Hommel, the Bulls' sporting director, highlights Zernikel's potential and his valuable experience.
Kai Zernikel in focus
At just 20 years old, Zernikel is a hot favorite. In addition to his move to Halle, he now also has the opportunity to gain a foothold with the Heilbronner Falken in the current season with a sponsorship license. He will be in the Falken squad for the upcoming home game against Deggendorfer SC. The young defender, who has already played 9 games for the Schwenninger Wild Wings, brings a breath of fresh air to the league.
The move from Zernikel to Halle and Michl's stay with the Gladiators show how active the transfer period is in the league. The teams rely on young talent and proven leadership figures to achieve success in the coming season. Fans can look forward to an exciting season for both the Gladiators and the Bulls.
