Uettingen: 6,135 euros for cancer sufferers – Bettina Schmitt-Bauer is committed!
A wonderful splendor in the run-up to Christmas: Bettina Schmitt-Bauer, the committed initiator of Spielhimmel in Uettingen, recently presented a significant donation of 6,135 euros to the “KOI – Life despite Cancer” support association. This considerable sum was collected at a handicraft bazaar in November, in which many creative minds participated and numerous unique handmade items were offered at low prices. Visitors not only had the opportunity to purchase unique pieces, but could also support the association directly through donations. Beate Beyrich, the chairwoman of KOI, gratefully received the donation.
Interestingly, this was not Schmitt-Bauer's first support for the club. She had already donated 1,000 euros in the summer, which came about through a project with a bookshelf in play heaven. Citizens can take books from this shelf for a small donation, which shows the community's commitment to those affected. Schmitt-Bauer's commitment is particularly touching because she herself experienced an intense illness from 2019 until she was diagnosed with metastases again in 2024. She emphasizes that people with cancer do not need pity, but real support.
Support through complementary medicine
The KOI association pursues an important goal: improving the quality of life of people with cancer through complementary medical advice at the University of Würzburg. In addition to classic treatment methods, the association would like to pursue a holistic approach that includes not only nutrition and exercise, but also psychosocial support. Especially in stressful times such as a cancer diagnosis, it is important that those affected do not feel alone and can receive comprehensive support.
KOI's offerings cover a wide range, from nutritional advice to exercise programs and mind-body techniques. Such integrative medicine combines proven conventional medical therapies with complementary procedures that can also help to increase quality of life and alleviate possible side effects. As in Cancer information portal described, complementary medicine also includes these areas, among other things. However, it should always be done in consultation with your treating doctor in order to avoid interactions.
Warning about dangerous methods
However, experts warn against relying solely on alternative therapy methods as this may lead to a delay in effective treatments. In many cases, alternative approaches increase the risk of serious side effects, are often not sufficiently researched and may even be life-threatening. The Cancer Information Service emphasizes that it is important to always rely on reliable information when choosing therapies and to seek discussions with doctors. This is the only way those affected can ensure which measures are actually helpful.
Bettina Schmitt-Bauer's path to support is a shining example of how commitment and solidarity can have a positive impact in difficult times. With the support of KOI and a large number of people who have come together, a signal is being sent: People stand up for each other and together, even the hardest times can be overcome more easily.
