On the night of Friday, October 31, 2025, a wrong-way driver on the A8 in Bavaria caused a stir. A 94-year-old man from Munich got behind the wheel and drove in the opposite direction, which led to a dramatic incident near Irschenberg, in the Miesbach district, around 3:40 a.m. Several road users noticed the dangerous driver and immediately informed the police about the emergency call. The officers reacted promptly and launched a search to stop the wrong-way trip, but the man was already on the A8 towards Munich.
Without braking, the elderly man raced at 100 km/h into a police vehicle that was parked at the end of a barrier. Both vehicles sustained significant damage in this collision. Fortunately, the wrong-way driver was only slightly injured and was taken to hospital. The police officers who were not in the vehicle at the time of the collision were uninjured. In order to prevent further accidents, traffic was diverted to the Irschenberg junction, which did not lead to any significant traffic disruptions thanks to the early hour.
Police investigation and consequences
The reasons for the ghost ride are currently the subject of police investigations. Meanwhile, the 94-year-old's driver's license was confiscated to prevent further incidents of this kind. The A8 roadway was reopened around 5:15 a.m. so that traffic could flow quickly again.
