Mighty Dogs on the hunt for points: Pfaffenhofen and Ulm want revenge!
Things are currently going great for ERV Schweinfurt's Mighty Dogs in the Bayernliga. With a flawless record of nine points from three games, the Schweinfurters are heading to the next stage of their season, which they want to start next Friday in Pfaffenhofen. There the team meets EC Pfaffenhofen, who go into the game in 14th place in the table and so far without any points. If you look at the ECP's previous games, it quickly becomes clear that the team hasn't exactly been lucky so far: EC Pfaffenhofen all suffered defeats against their opponents EHC Königsbrunn, Miesbach and EHC Klostersee. The Mighty Dogs report that the ECP is now coming up with new changes, as coach changes and squad changes are on the agenda. After Stefan Teufel was fired, Markus Muhr took over the reins.
The ECP's player numbers speak for themselves: seven departures, including the missing Nils Münzberg, meet eight new arrivals. The remaining key players include the Eckl and Hätinen brothers as well as Jakub Vrana and Jan Tlacil, who will certainly do everything in their power to get their team's first point. Fans can also watch Pfaffenhofen's home games this season for the first time on SpradeTV.
A look at the competition
On Sunday, ERV Schweinfurt awaits the Devils Ulm/Neu-Ulm in the Icedome. This game will be revenge for the quarterfinal playoff series of the 2024/2025 season, which the Devils won in an exciting game. They also started with mixed results and lost their opening game against Miesbach 2:1, but were able to score points against Grafing (4:2) and the Kempten Sharks (6:1). With coach Michael Bielefeld at the helm, the Ulm team will try to take advantage of the Mighty Dogs' weak phase and put further pressure on the table.
The Devils also had to juggle departures, including the serious loss of Stefan Rodrigues to Königsbrunn. But the team around goalkeeper David Heckenberger and defender Felix Anwander has the necessary class to return to the path of success. Due to an almost stable team structure, the chances of a successful weekend for the Devils are at least not bad.
How is the league doing?
The Bavarian Ice Hockey League is the highest amateur class in Bavaria and is organized by the Bavarian Ice Hockey Association. There are currently 16 teams fighting for the championship title, with the best eight teams advancing to the interlocking round. This will be played in best-of-five mode. The six weakest teams face the challenge of fighting for relegation in a single round. This shows how balanced the league is and how important every game is to a team's success. EHC Waldkraiburg currently leads the all-time list of championship titles, while the last few years have been overshadowed by the pandemic-related break.
All eyes are on the upcoming games: The Mighty Dogs want to extend their series, while EC Pfaffenhofen wants to stop the decline. The excitement in the Bayernliga is as high as ever and the fans can look forward to an exciting weekend!
