New host couple plans controversial techno festival on the Wallberg!
A lot will change in the heart of Rottach-Egern in December 2025: Daniela and Christian Pfaller will take over the well-known restaurant on the Wallberg, which towers a breathtaking 1,722 meters above Lake Tegernsee. They are replacing the popular innkeepers Utta and Rainer Schönhofer, who are starting their well-deserved retirement after three decades.
The new operators have already made big plans to bring a breath of fresh air to the gastronomic landscape. Plans include a strong beer festival, a crime thriller dinner and a dialect festival. The highlight of the coming season, however, will be the “Snow Peak Festival”, which is scheduled to take place on February 7, 2026. With six DJs and the opportunity for 550 guests to celebrate winter from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., preparations are in full swing. Admission prices are set at 75 euros for standard and 125 euros for exclusive backstage tickets (of which only 50 are available).
Approvals and Concerns
Despite the anticipation of the festival, there are already initial obstacles: the Miesbach district office has expressed concerns and sees the event as requiring approval. It is critically pointed out that the event could raise problems under species protection law. Finally, the festival takes place outdoors, which requires special permission according to current regulations.
As [Schutt-Wäke](https://schutt-waetke.de/ Veranstaltungsrecht-eventrecht/authorizations-fuer-events/) also states, it is necessary that the organizer obtains all necessary permits in a timely manner, especially if the event is public or the event causes disruption to local residents. This is especially true if the event does not take place in a setting intended for this purpose.
Christian Pfaller has already recognized the situation and sees his festival in a positive light. He compares the planned techno event with the traditional forest festivals, which are also characterized by loud music outdoors. However, there are also legitimate concerns from conservationists about possible negative impacts on nature and wildlife, especially when driving at night.
Responsibility of the organizers
The responsibility for compliance with the legal points clearly lies with the organizers, as [Fiylo](https://www.fiylo.de/magazin/eventrecht-authorizations-was-ist-duty-bei- events/) emphasizes. In addition to approvals, security concepts and legal aspects such as music rights must also be taken into account. The more public the event, the higher the requirements for the relevant permits. This includes, among other things, the use permit from the public order office and possible damage caused by noise pollution, which must be avoided.
The challenges cannot be underestimated: careful management is required to meet all necessary requirements and ensure a safe and entertaining experience. In the past, organizers have often found that timely planning and collaboration with competent partners are crucial to the success of the event. However, it remains unclear why the community of Rottach-Egern has not yet been informed about the festival's plans.
The new pub owners are optimistic about the challenges ahead, but must be aware that there are still many hurdles to overcome. Despite all the difficulties, winter business could hope for a successful start.
