Garching is celebrating: Citizens' Week and street festival promise highlights!
Garching will be all about celebrations in July 2024. The city is organizing a large folk festival in the Bürgerpark, which takes place from July 3rd to 7th, followed by a colorful street festival from July 11th to 13th. Cultural advisor Thomas Gotterbarm shares exciting insights into what happened during Citizens' Week and the street festival that followed. A highlight will be the classic car meeting on July 5th, where around 100 lovingly cared for cars are expected.
There is a tasty offer especially for seniors on Monday: from 11 a.m., those who were born in 1959 or older can enjoy half a pint of beer and half a chicken - that's a nice thing! Parents should mark Friday as this day will be all about children and families. There will be a lot of music in the evenings as a different band sets the mood every day.
Festival host and beer tent
The new festival host this year is Sebastian Mayerhofer from the Almrausch festival tent operation and he is bringing a few delicacies from Bavarian cuisine. This of course includes the popular Weihenstephan festival beer as well as a selection of non-alcoholic drinks. The Munich-North Gau Schützen Association is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a parade on July 6th, starting at 12:30 p.m. On Sunday, July 7th, the big club parade will take place at 12 p.m., where Garching will present its colorful club landscape.
Another highlight is the newly founded band “Bälamys XXL” from the Garching fire department, which will perform on Friday evening at 6 p.m. The tug-of-war competition, in which the hometown club took first place last year and is eager to defend the title, provides additional thrills.
Cultural diversity and entertainment
The street festival will celebrate the multicultural diversity of Garching. Over 80 exhibitors present their offerings and a colorful supporting program with various children's activities is offered on a live stage. A special treat is the local association's wheat beer carousel, which will make visitors smile.
Music lovers can look forward to the recently acclaimed band Cagey Strings, which offers a mix of classic rock 'n' roll from the fifties, original songs, oldies and party hits from all decades. The band has been a fixture at the Munich Oktoberfest since 1996 and is regularly engaged for Citizens' Week in Garching. Their energetic music and polyphonic singing are a guarantee for a good atmosphere. Those interested can find further information on the band's website.
Folk festivals in Bavaria are an excellent opportunity not only for locals but also for tourists to experience Bavarian culture and hospitality. It is advisable to find out about admission prices and special conditions in advance, especially at large festivals such as Oktoberfest in Munich, where early reservations for beer tent spaces are often necessary. The [Gaudi Knopf](https://www.gaudi Knopf.de/pages/volksfeste-bayern) reports that such festivals are usually organized in such a way that they appeal to a wide audience and that multilingual offerings are provided.
In summary, the upcoming events in Garching offer a welcome opportunity to enjoy the city at its best. Whether with family, friends or alone – there is certainly something on offer for everyone.
