On October 29, 2025, the prestigious “Capital of Fair Trade” awards ceremony was celebrated in the Old Town Hall in Munich. An important personality who particularly stood out was city councilor Mona Fuchs. She took an active part in the event and showed great interest in the topics of fair procurement and social responsibility in municipalities. This initiative is an important signal to further promote the purchase of products and services based on social criteria. The winning municipalities were announced in a previous broadcast; this time the winners of the audience award, the newcomer award and two special awards were the focus of the discussion. The organizations Weed, Femnet and Südwind also presented new projects on fair procurement, which thrilled the audience.

The “Fair Trade Capital” competition has been held since 2003 and is very popular with cities, municipalities and districts. The aim is to recognize globally responsible and sustainable action and to promote innovative municipal projects in the areas of fair trade and fair procurement. Participation in this competition is worthwhile: In addition to high prize money, municipalities receive access to a unique learning network and can exchange experiences that strengthen their development policy profile. New challenges and opportunities

This round offers prize money totaling 220,000 euros, which will be distributed among the winners in the small, medium and large municipality categories. In addition, there are three special awards and an audience award intended to honor the diversity of the projects.

Participation in such a competition is not just a way to receive financial support. It also offers the chance to exchange ideas and network with like-minded people. Commitment Global thus supports the municipal commitment to globally fairer trade and sustainable structures.

The city of Munich, which won this year's award, is not the only one to benefit from this competition. Cities such as Sankt Peter-Ording and Ingelheim have also shown great interest in sustainable projects and have received awards.
