New Year's Eve party in Munich: 20,000 celebrate with a laser show and live music!
Munich expects its big New Year's Eve celebration on December 31, 2026. This year, the New Year's Eve mile stretches between Odeonsplatz and Siegestor and opens its doors from 7 p.m. to around 2 a.m. The event will be moderated live by Thomas Gierling and offers space for around 20,000 revelers. This is the first New Year's Eve mile since the last one in 1999. There are some exciting changes and innovations around the event that are intended to make the experience even more festive.
Ludwigstrasse has been closed between Georgenstrasse and Theresienstrasse since Sunday to make construction easier. The installation of fences, medical tents and stages began on Monday. There will be no traditional fireworks show this year; instead, a spectacular laser show with 196 low-energy lasers will delight the crowd at midnight. For the little spectators there is a light show at 10 p.m.
Treats and music for everyone
Around 15 food trucks offer a variety of culinary delights, including Kaiserschmarrn, sausages, burgers, sparkling wine and mulled wine. Good news for music lovers: various bands and DJs will perform on four stages. From pop and party music to hip-hop and electronic dance music, there is something for every taste. Also taking part are the TikTok star “Prank Brother” (Simon Both) and The Voice winner Jennifer Lynn.
The tickets are already in great demand: adults pay from 40 euros, reduced prices for young people are 35 euros and 25 euros for children. A family package for two adults and two children for 31.25 euros is unfortunately already sold out. Tickets are available at digital box offices at all entrances, although the box office at the North Entrance also accepts card payments.
Safety precautions and participant guidelines
As is usual with large events, numerous security precautions have been taken here. Glassware, large bags and fireworks are strictly prohibited, while around 150 security guards ensure the safety of visitors. Children aged 6 and over are allowed to visit the New Year's Eve Mile, but must be accompanied by a legal guardian up to the age of 18. 16 and 17 year olds have the opportunity to take part with a parenting certificate (mother's certificate). Dogs are also not allowed, for understandable reasons.
An interesting detail is that a celebration takes place on the Tollwood grounds on Theresienwiese parallel to the New Year's Eve mile. This party spans five areas, four of which are protected from the weather, and features numerous live bands and DJs. Tickets for the Tollwood party cost 38.50 euros and admission starts at 7 p.m. with live music from 7:30 p.m.
This exciting New Year's Eve celebration in Munich is not alone, as other German cities also celebrate wildly. The biggest parties are planned in Berlin and Hamburg, and massive security precautions are in place. In Berlin, thousands gather at the Brandenburg Gate to watch the fireworks. Security forces have often had to deal with the misuse of fireworks in the past, which is exactly why compliance with the regulations is important in Munich.
The anticipation for Munich's New Year's Eve mile is growing, and the city is preparing to celebrate the turn of the year in style - as always with good music, delicious food and lots of fun!
