A gang of fraudsters is currently up to mischief in Neu-Ulm, relying on a very special business model: They buy jewelry and other valuables at the front door - and at prices that are anything but fair. As the Südwest Presse reports, the two perpetrators, a 16-year-old and a 22-year-old, are both German, and they are obviously targeting unsuspecting sellers. Apparently they advertised in a newspaper promising to purchase antiques, furs, porcelain and carpets at high prices.

After contacting us by telephone, the fraudsters initially appear polite and interested and look at the potential goods. But they quickly turn around and claim that the offers are inferior. They use this scam to try to obtain additional pieces of jewelry or watches as collateral.

The police finally became aware of the two perpetrators when they confiscated a considerable amount of valuables during a check - including gold chains, gold teeth and rings. The investigations against the two fraudsters are already underway, and the police are urgently warning against dubious newspaper advertisements and door-to-door sales.
