Volunteering in Neu-Ulm: Citizen medals awarded for committed personalities
Yesterday evening it was that time again: The city of Neu-Ulm honored special personalities for their outstanding achievements and their commitment to the community. The coveted citizen medals were awarded for the second time this year in the Edwin Scharff House. In her speech, Mayor Katrin Albsteiger emphasized the immense importance of volunteering for coexistence in the city and praised volunteer work as a central element of city life. “The city lives from people who take responsibility,” she emphasized and sent a sign of gratitude to all those who have stood up for their fellow human beings in recent years.
A moving moment of the event was the minute's silence for Dietmar Liebchen, who recently passed away. He was posthumously awarded a Medal of Honor for his contributions to nursing. This impressively shows how complex the commitment in Neu-Ulm is.
Distinguished citizens
This year four citizens were honored with the Bronze Citizen Medal:
Brigitte Hägele was also awarded the Silver Citizen’s Medal. Her over 35 years of commitment as a sacristan, on the church council and in various clubs speaks for itself.
The appointment of Beate Merk and Gerold Noerenberg as honorary citizens of Neu-Ulm was particularly pleasing. Their services to the city are undisputed and have been honored in moving words. However, the evening did not stop at volunteering: the event also offered a beautiful setting to highlight the diverse and valuable work of the sports clubs, which represent an important part of social life in Neu-Ulm.
A look into the digital world
Overall, the awarding of the Citizens' Medals was an evening full of emotions and warm recognition, which showed how strong the community in Neu-Ulm is and how much the volunteers contribute to society. At this point we would like to thank all those involved - they make our city what it is.
