Registration for Danube swimming has started – ice swimming spots fully booked!
It's that time again: Registration for the 55th edition of the Neuburg Danube Swimming started on January 31, 2026! By Monday afternoon, almost 400 swimmers had already registered to take part in this extraordinary event. However, the places for participation in the ice swimming, which is carried out without a wetsuit but only in swimwear, are already completely filled and the anticipation for this special competition is clearly noticeable. Danube Courier further reports that Anja Weiss, who has been the chairwoman of the Neuburger Wasserwacht since February 2023, has the main responsibility for Danube swimming.
Over the years, the event has developed into Europe's largest winter swimming event, and not without reason: one of the organizers' goals is to reach the 2,000 mark in registrations again after several years. In January 2023, 1,852 participants took part in the Danube Swimming and a colorful spectacle can be expected in which participants can not only swim, but also wear colorful costumes and use creative water vehicles. The swim takes place over a distance of four kilometers from the Bittenbrunn barrage to the rowing club. The traditional opening act is flanked by a salute from the cannon shooters. Further details about registration can be found on the Wasserwacht Neuburg website: neuburg-donau.de.
Changes and inclusive program
This year there are some adjustments to the prices: breakfast for non-resident swimmers now costs nine euros, an increase of one euro. However, the participation fees for swimming remain at 17 euros per person. Tickets for the popular water wax ball can still be purchased for 19 euros each - a maximum of two tickets per swimmer. Registrations are possible until the morning of the Danube swim, so that last-minute decisions can also be made.
The popularity of ice swimming remains unbroken, but the coming winter will not only offer exciting events in Neuburg. The Ice Cup Germany starts with four competitions, the first taking place from November 30th to December 1st, 2023 in Silbersee in Hanover. This project aims to lead to Olympic recognition for ice swimming. Anyone who is enthusiastic about ice sports will have the opportunity to prove themselves in various competitions over the next few months. More information about this can be found on swim.de.
January 31, 2026 will certainly be an exciting day for all swimming enthusiasts in and around Neuburg! Whether swimming in the icy water or taking part in the cheerful accompanying event - the region is looking forward to numerous participants and spectators.
