Holger Gottschalk: The new SPD star from Altötting turns 51!
There is news from politics in Altötting: Holger Gottschalk has established himself as the new local chairman of the SPD and has thus taken over the torch from Marco Keßler, who steered the party's fortunes for almost a decade. At the annual general meeting on November 17, 2024, which featured new elections, Gottschalk emphasized the need for discussion, unity and reliability within the party. His goal is clear: the focus should be on winning back workers for the SPD. Gottschalk is already deputy chairman and SPD parliamentary group spokesman in the Altötting city council, where he wants to use his skills to make a difference. PNP reports that Gottschalk is also a chemistry and biology teacher at the König-Karlmann-Gymnasium.
But who is Holger Gottschalk actually? Born and raised in Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, he will be 51 years old on October 27, 2025. After studying biology and chemistry for high school teaching in Regensburg, he worked in various professional positions in Middle Franconia, Eichstätt and Marquartstein before settling in the Altötting district in 2008. He taught at the Kumax-Gymnasium in Burghausen for four years before finally passing on his knowledge at the König-Karlmann-Gymnasium in Altötting. In his private life he is married to Ursula and has two children.
New course for the SPD
The SPD in the Altötting district, which consists of 13 local associations, pursues the goal of shaping politics for the citizens, based on the basic values of freedom, justice and solidarity. spd-altoetting.de describes that the district association plays an important role in organizing events and election campaigns and acts as a link between the different party levels.
The political work under Gottschalk has already borne initial fruit. Christian Faul was also elected deputy chairman at the meeting, and the 15th SPD Schafkopf tournament has been announced for November 29th at Trostberger Hof. Such events are not only social occasions, but also important opportunities to maintain contact with the population and strengthen the positions of the SPD.
The look into the future
Shortly before the elections, SPD Bundestag candidate Jürgen Fernengel is casting his eyes on the Altötting region. He is planning to move to the area and has already formulated clear campaign priorities that include a strong economy, overcoming social divisions and environmental and energy issues. The SPD Altötting points this out, by focusing on their cooperation within the city council and with neighboring cities such as Neuötting.
Holger Gottschalk, firmly rooted in the educational landscape and now also active on the political front, has big plans. It remains exciting to see how the SPD will develop in the coming period and what impulses Gottschalk and his team can provide.
