Strong storm warning: Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h in Bavaria!
There is a lot to talk about in Bavaria today: The German Weather Service (DWD) has issued an urgent warning about storms and gusts of wind. This affects large parts of the Free State, and not without reason. Wind speeds reach classic peak values on the edge of the Alps: at altitudes above 1000 meters, gusts of up to 90 km/h can be expected, while gusts at lower altitudes can still reach 55 to 70 km/h. The warnings are valid until 6 p.m. for most areas and even until 8 p.m. in exposed locations. [Augsburger Allgemeine](https://www.augsburger- Allgemeine.de/bayern/sturm-in-bayern-bis-zu-90-km-h-deutscher-wetterdienst-warnt-vor-sturmboeen-112675447) gives a detailed overview of the affected districts and urban areas.
In total, only four districts in Bavaria are exempt from the warnings. Regions in Upper Bavaria, Lower Bavaria, Upper Palatinate and Swabia, including cities such as Munich, Rosenheim and Augsburg, are particularly affected. The weather situation is caused by a striking cold front, which also causes heavy rain. According to Merkur, people can expect up to 25 l/m² of precipitation. In addition, the snowfall limit could drop to surprisingly low altitudes - this makes additional snowfall of up to 15 cm possible at 1000 meters. This makes it clear: winter conditions will play a role in the coming days.
What can you do?
The authority appeals to the population to exercise caution. Secure detached objects such as furniture or tents and be prepared for flying objects. The DWD expressly warns of falling branches and other dangers that can arise from the storm winds. Gusts in low-lying regions can also cause damage, which is why it is advisable to always keep an eye on weather warnings.
For the sportingly ambitious citizens: Even the mountain regions are not without risk. Up to 20cm of fresh snow could be expected above 1500 metres, which could not only mean snow-covered slopes but also dangerous conditions for hikers. Alpine athletes should go into the mountains particularly carefully and well-informed. Information about current weather warnings can be found on the [Bayerischer Rundfunk] platform (https://www.br.de/wetter/action/wetterwarenen/alerts.do).
What's next?
The unsettled weather conditions are expected to continue into the weekend. Thunderstorms could extend into Monday and temperatures will range between 12 and 17 degrees during the day, falling to 2 to 8 degrees at night. A look at the coming days shows that citizens are well advised to find out about snowfall and rain events, as the weather forecasts appear to be very dynamic.
