Severe weather warning for Bavaria: thunderstorms and heavy rain are threatening today!

The weather in Bavaria is extremely changeable at the start of the week and brings storm and rain warnings. As ludwigshafen24.de reports, the German Weather Service (DWD) expects continuous rain and thunderstorms, especially in the northeast of the country. The districts of Schweinfurt, Hassberge, Bamberg, Lichtenfels, Coburg, Kronach, Hof, Wunsiedel im Fichtelgebirge, Bayreuth and Neustadt an der Waldnaab are particularly affected.

An official warning of heavy rain with rainfall amounts of 20 to 35 liters per square meter in a period of just six hours is in effect for this area until 7 p.m. The wind will not hold back either, with gusts of up to 70 km/h, which will be felt especially in the midday hours. On Sunday, according to dwd.de, thunderstorms were observed that triggered a debris avalanche on the edge of the Alps, and a concert in Franconia had to be interrupted due to the unforeseen weather conditions.

Unstable eastern weather and thunderstorm fronts

But that's not all! According to the forecast weather conditions, severe thunderstorms will also occur in the western and southwestern regions from early afternoon. As the DWD explains, local rainfall could even reach 30 liters per square meter in a short period of time. These thunderstorm fronts will move across the middle of the country until the evening and bring strong to stormy gusts, occasionally even squalls with speeds of around 80 km/h!

But the showers are not expected to stop next night either. According to the DWD, there could continue to be isolated thunderstorms while the rainfall gradually eases. But the weather remains unstable: On Tuesday, citizens will have to prepare for showers and thunderstorms again, with rainfall could be around 20 l/sqm. A drop in temperature on Tuesday night will put additional stress on people's minds as temperatures will drop to 12 to 16 degrees - a real contrast to previous temperatures. However, values around 20 degrees can still be expected during the day.

A look ahead to the coming week

It looks like the forecasts for Thursday and Friday remain less than encouraging, as more rainy days are forecast. The DWD therefore recommends particular caution, especially for people in the affected regions. Anyone who will be out and about in the next few days should keep themselves informed about the current weather warnings and always be ready to quickly find shelter. Bleibt also wachsam, denn das Wetter in Bayern hat die Tendenz, unberechenbar zu sein!
