The city of Nuremberg is planning a Jewish meeting place for culture and exchange

Something is happening for the Jewish community in Nuremberg: The city and the Nuremberg Jewish Community (IKGN) have exciting plans for a new Jewish meeting place. The aim is to increase the visibility of Jewish life and to create space for encounters, culture and exchange. Nuremberg city portal reports that a feasibility study was already presented on October 22, 2025, which is the result of two years of intensive collaboration with various stakeholders.

This study is no coincidence: On March 19, 2023, the Nuremberg city council unanimously decided to push forward with the creation of this meeting place and to commission the administration to prepare the feasibility study. The support for this project shows how important the issue of Jewish life is in Nuremberg, as Mayor Marcus König also emphasizes.

Diverse offers for everyone

The planned meeting place is intended to become a real centerpiece for the community. A variety of events are planned, such as concerts, workshops, readings and discussions that deal with social and political issues. The chairman of the IKGN, Jo-Achim Hamburger, sees this facility as a valuable addition to the cityscape and is confident that lively culture will emerge here. The feasibility study includes two variants: one with an exhibition area of around 1,300 square meters and a smaller version with around 1,000 square meters without its own exhibition area.

What is particularly exciting is that the focus is not on a museum or a religious site, but on today's Jewish life and culture. When looking for suitable premises, you also think about a connection to existing restaurants, which should encourage spontaneous encounters.

A space for culture and exchange

This is exactly where the planned exhibition “With Star of David and Lederhosen” comes, which will be on display in the city center from December 9, 2025. This exhibition focuses on interfaith festivals of light such as Hanukkah, Christmas and light in Islam. It shows that culture can also build bridges.

What does this mean for the city of Nuremberg? The planned meeting place is not only a place of community, but also a symbol of the recognition and appreciation of Jewish life in the city. Given the vibrant Jewish history in cities like Leipzig, which have always been a center for Jewish life, the way is paved for such initiatives. Completely in the spirit of Deutschland.de, where you realize how important exchange and cultural diversity are for coexistence.

It remains exciting to see how the plans become more concrete and what impulses the new Jewish meeting place will bring to Nuremberg. However, one thing is certain: it will be a meeting point for everyone who is interested in Jewish culture and wants to promote exchange between religions.
