Bavaria inspires: Oberding among the top 10 tourism strongholds!
The German tourism landscape has changed noticeably in recent years. In a recent analysis by Mercury shows that around 75% of the over 2,000 communities with at least 5,000 inhabitants recorded an increase in tourist density. This means that more and more guests are appreciating the advantages of German travel destinations and are flocking to the popular regions.
Particular focus is on the city of Rust in Baden-Württemberg, which occupies the top position with an impressive tourist density of 198.3 guests per inhabitant (GpE). The Baltic Sea islands of Binz and Heringsdorf are also highly popular with 75.2 GpE and 69.9 GpE. Loud HolidayCheck Oberding in the Erding district has made a remarkable leap forward with an increase of more than 27 guests per inhabitant and ranks in fourth place among German tourism strongholds.
Bavaria on the rise
The Bavarian municipalities are also showing encouraging development. An increase of 0.48 guests per resident was recorded in the Free State, resulting in a total value of 3.04 GpE. For the first time, Bavaria exceeds the mark of three guests per resident. In Munich, the tourist density increased to 6.14 GpE, which represents an increase compared to the 4.59 GpE of the previous year. This makes Munich the second best German location among major cities, behind Frankfurt am Main with 8.3 GpE.
But there are not only winners. The well-known town of Oberammergau, notorious for its passion plays, has seen the biggest decline in tourist density, with over seven fewer guests per resident in the last two years. This shows that not all regions can benefit from the increasing number of tourists.
Trend reporting and projections
The data and analyzes come from a variety of sources that examine travel behavior and trends in German tourism. According to that Tourism Competence Center Various studies look at the development of travelers in the country, from popular holiday destinations to day trips. These comprehensive analyzes provide valuable insights into traveler behavior and help develop future strategies for the tourism industry.
However, the challenges should not be underestimated. Despite the positive numbers, many communities are reporting reduced length of stay, which could impact the region's overall revenue. With all the change and new tourism trends, it remains to be seen how the German travel industry will develop in the coming years. One thing is certain: there is still a lot to discover and the anticipation of new adventures is great!
