Pastor Thaddäus Biernacki is retiring – farewell to Bernbeuren!
In a moving ceremony, the parish community of Bernbeuren, Burggen, Tannenberg and Ingenried said goodbye to their long-time pastor Thaddäus Biernacki, who is retiring after seven years. His new home will be Biessenhofen in the Ostallgäu district. Mayor Karl Schleich praised the good cooperation, while Manfred Karlinger remembered shared experiences such as the Georgi ride. Despite his request for a modest farewell, one could feel the warm farewell from the community.
Sabine Hipp wished “health in retirement,” while the church choir and the Bernbeuren music band provided musical accompaniment to the service. In his sermon, Biernacki reflected on his time in the seminary and thanked him for the many experiences during his pastoral care. He gave his best wishes to his successor, Michael Hans Schmid, who will be installed on September 1st. The community also has reason to be happy, because on October 18th the 300th anniversary of the parish church of St. Nicholas will be celebrated, including an organ concert and an exhibition on church history.
Renovation of the rectory
The renovation is intended to create a clear separation between the parish office and the pastor's private rooms. Each floor of the rectory has an area of around 170 square meters. While the ground floor contains office space and a meeting room, the new clergyman's apartment will be on the first floor and the apartment for a housekeeper and an archive will be on the second floor. The problem with rising damp could also be resolved through structural measures such as the installation of a horizontal barrier.
Community involvement
An important part of community life is ensured by the parish council (PGR). This actively supports pastoral care and represents the diversity of people within the community. The PGR has set itself the goal of actively shaping community life through various committees and of keeping an eye on the four pillars of pastoral care - liturgy, diakonia, proclamation and community. The commitment of these committees shows how important it is to accompany people in their worries and joys and to strengthen the church as a place of community.
The great commitment and changes in the parish are emblematic of the lively community in Bernbeuren, which not only relies on tradition but also looks boldly into the future. The farewell to Pastor Biernacki is only part of a larger change that is shaping the parish community.
