Regensburg saves: Over 30,000 euros collected for sea rescue!

Regensburg's donation landscape is currently bubbling! The “Regensburg saves” campaign, an initiative of the association Sea Eye in cooperation with the city of Regensburg, collected over 30,000 euros within a month. This is particularly gratifying because the city will double every donation up to a total of 30,000 euros if the funds are received by the end of the year. A clear sign that the people of Regensburg are pulling together to support civilian sea rescue in the Mediterranean.

The campaign runs from September 1st to December 31st, 2025 and aims to secure the use of the rescue ship SEA-EYE 5. Civilian rescue workers are currently facing cuts in government funding, which is jeopardizing the implementation of their essential surveillance and rescue operations. It is all the more important that the population comes together and shows that saving the lives of people on the run is important to them.

A strong sign of solidarity

The unbroken support of the people of Regensburg is also reflected in the donation cans provided by local restaurants. These will remain in place until December 31, 2025 to continue to help finance the project. Already in the first phase of the campaign, the city of Regensburg took over the sponsorship of the ship, which once again shows how seriously the humanitarian responsibility is taken here.

Unfortunately, the situation in the Mediterranean remains dramatic: an average of six people lose their lives every day trying to reach Europe. Every day, countless people risk their lives while organizations like SOS Humanity do everything possible to save those affected. Their most recent missions show how urgently help is needed. On October 5th, around 34 survivors and, tragically, two bodies were brought ashore in the port of Porto Empedocle.

A look at the current operations

Here is a brief overview of Humanity 1's most recent missions:

  • 05.10.2025: 34 Überlebende und zwei Leichen an Land gebracht.
  • 04.10.2025: Hafen von Bari als Ausschiffungsort zugewiesen.
  • 30.09.2025: 29 Überlebende nach vier Tagen an Land gebracht.
  • 26.09.2025: Berichte über illegale Rückführungen durch die libysche Küstenwache.

These reports highlight the ongoing challenges facing civilian sea rescue organizations. It is becoming increasingly clear: popular support is essential to address the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Mediterranean.

While the donation account remains open until the end of the year, the people of Regensburg have the opportunity to actively participate in saving human lives. Every euro counts, and with a little solidarity and commitment a lot can be achieved. Let's all take responsibility together!
