Bad Neustadt: Psychiatric care in danger – successor not qualified!
From July 1st a lot will change in Bad Neustadt: Dr. Evelyn Junghans, the only specialist in psychiatry in the Rhön-Grabfeld region, is handing over her practice at the Rhön-Klinikum Campus after 31 years. This handover could have an impact on many patients because after they leave there will no longer be a specialist in psychiatry on site. Dr. Emil Pechlivanov, who will take over the practice, is trained in basic psychosomatic care and has completed further training as a neurologist, but is not a specialist in psychiatry. This could limit access to psychiatric treatment options close to home, which is particularly a challenge for mentally ill people Mainpost reports.
This change raises questions: Where can those affected now find adequate support? The supply situation could become more difficult because Dr. Pechlivanov's qualifications do not cover the specific requirements of a psychiatrist. However, the need for psychiatric help remains high, meaning that the pressure for alternative psychosocial services in the area is growing.
Alternative psychosocial offers in the region
Fortunately, the region offers a range of mental health service providers to meet a variety of needs. For example, people with addiction problems and other psychological stress can find support from professionals who provide therapists and psychosocial services. The Psychosomatic Care lists a variety of services:
These offers are particularly important in order to be able to react flexibly to healthcare needs. As part of statutory health insurance, insured persons have the right to receive psychotherapeutic help without first consulting a doctor. This also applies to the psychotherapeutic consultation hours offered by the psychotherapists, which ensure uncomplicated access to outpatient psychotherapy. As the Federal Ministry of Health explains, acute treatments and trial sessions that serve diagnostic clarification can take place here.
The handover of Dr. Junghans' practice raises many questions, and the search for adequate psychiatric services in the region remains an issue that will become increasingly important in the coming weeks and months. It will be exciting to see how the range of psychosocial care continues to develop and whether access to the necessary support resources in Bad Neustadt and the surrounding area will continue to be guaranteed.
