Young talents shine at the Musikverein Gartenstadt: Junior exam successful!

Music has a high priority in our lives, and in Bad Neustadt this is particularly evident through the commitment of the young musicians. On August 14, 2025, five talented young musicians from the Gartenstadt Music Association took part in the examination for the coveted junior badge from the North Bavarian Music Association. This award is considered the first hurdle on the way to the D badge and is intended to offer young musicians the opportunity to present what they have learned in front of an audience.

The exam is a welcome opportunity to get a taste of the “exam atmosphere”. The junior badge can be achieved after just one to two years of intensive training on the instrument and is a highlight for young artists. During the exam, musicians complete both theoretical and practical tasks, which include reading music, music theory and ear training. They have to demonstrate their skills in a familiar environment.

A look at the exam

The exam participants are faced with various tasks: They have to perform three scales with triads and two performance pieces. In this way, they can not only demonstrate their technical skills, but also effectively demonstrate what they have learned. The Junior Badge precedes the Bronze Badge and is aimed at children who have either completed two years of lessons or attended wind music class for two years. The exams are usually held at the end of a school year to give students a sense of continuity in their musical development. This is not about “passing” or “failing”, but rather about valuable training feedback.

The payment of teaching materials for the junior badge will be paused during the summer holidays, from August 7th to 29th, 2025. From September 1st, the documents will be available again and preparations for the next exams can begin. The participants have the opportunity to receive individual feedback on their performance and to document their progress in their instrumental training.

And what comes after that?

For many young musicians, getting the junior badge is just the beginning. Showing progress and contributing to a community are central aspects of musical education. The exam takes place on a club basis, which strengthens the bond between the young musicians and their club.

Anyone who is still considering pursuing a musical path or further developing themselves can discover interesting courses in instrumental and vocal pedagogy at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne (HfMT Cologne). The program management offers comprehensive advice on the course of studies, academic achievements and individual profile questions in order to fully develop the students' academic potential. In addition, student assistants are available to students to provide information about modules and exams. A great opportunity to get started not only musically but also academically!HfMT Cologne

Overall, it shows that the junior badge represents an excellent platform for creative talents. It not only offers positive feedback on previous achievements, but also motivation to continue to be musically active and to overcome future challenges. A big thank you to the Musikverein Gartenstadt and everyone involved in making this valuable step in the lives of these young musicians possible!
