Drunk Austrian riots in pizzeria: police on duty!

An unusual incident caused a stir on Saturday in Oberaudorf, Rosenheim district. A 41-year-old man from Austria rioted in a pizzeria and took out his displeasure on guests and the owners. Loud Antenna.de This happened around 4:30 p.m.

The drunk customer insulted and spat at several people present before finally becoming aggressive and attacking the pizza owners when they asked him to leave the restaurant. Concerned passers-by had already called the police after the rioter himself alerted the officers with an emergency call and then claimed that he was being “finished off”.

Police operation and arrest

The police were quickly on site, two patrols from the Brannenburg police station and another from the Rosenheim traffic police station were dispatched. However, the man refused to cooperate with the officers, did not show any identification and instead attacked them verbally. Rosenheim24 reports that his aggression culminated in a situation in which he kicked and broke the side window of a police car.

The arrest was anything but easy. The man put up massive resistance, so it took five police officers to bring him under control. Two pizza owners and three police officers were slightly injured in this altercation. Finally, the rioter was taken to a psychiatric clinic in Wasserburg, where a medical evaluation was to take place.

Alcohol consumption and social challenges

The incident in Oberaudorf not only raises questions about safety in public spaces, but is also part of a larger issue. As the Statistics from Destatis show, around 62,300 people in Germany were hospitalized for acute alcohol poisoning in 2023. What is particularly striking is the high proportion of men, which is 68.8 percent. These figures are part of a steady decline that has reached the lowest levels since 2001.

The challenges of dealing with alcohol abuse are obvious. There has been a 60.9% decline in inpatient treatment cases due to acute alcohol abuse in the last ten years, particularly in the 15 to 19 year old age group. Despite this positive development, the problem remains relevant, as the incident in Oberaudorf clearly shows.

The Brannenburg police station has started an investigation to clarify the exact background to the incident. Given the increasing sensitivity to issues surrounding alcohol abuse and public safety, it is to be hoped that such incidents will become less common in the future.
