On Sunday, July 4th, 2025, Jesse Hinrichs from Oldenburg will celebrate his debut in the long-distance triathlon scene. He is taking part in the Challenge Roth, one of the largest triathlon events on a world scale, which takes place annually in the small town south of Nuremberg. This event not only attracts athletes from all over the world, but also over 300,000 spectators who come together to enjoy the atmosphere of challenge and success. Experts know that triathlon is a continuous competition consisting of three disciplines and has been an Olympic event since 2000. Difficult preparation

His preparation for Roth was anything but easy. Jesse has had to overcome a number of health setbacks in recent months, including heart surgery and a torn muscle fiber, which have thrown his training plans into disarray. But giving up is not an option for him. Despite these challenges, Hinrichs trained hard and talks about it in his column Public Oldenburg that he is impressed by the mood in Roth.

The event starts at 6:30 a.m. and includes 3.8 kilometers of swimming, followed by 180 kilometers of cycling and finally a 42-kilometer marathon. Jesse describes how he is really looking forward to the experience, while also anticipating strong competition. Names like Sam Laidlow, Vincent Luis, Henri Schoeman and Frederic Funk are on the list of athletes who also want to take on the challenge.

Insights into the challenge

Hinrichs can look back on a promising running time of 31:01 minutes, achieved in the 10-kilometer run in Hanover. But time out due to injury caused worry lines as he had to take a four-week break from running and his participation in Roth was at risk. However, he has now completed two long training runs of 28 and 32 kilometers and is ready to give it his all!

Visibly motivated, Jesse plans to inspire viewers with his achievements and to show an even larger audience what it means to take on such a challenge through live broadcasts on Hessischer Rundfunk and the ARD Sportschau. The anticipation of the intense cheering from his fans contributes to his motivation. “It will be an incredible experience,” enthuses the athlete.
