The 53rd International Hiking Day of Hiking Friends Himolla in Taufkirchen was a complete success, even if the weather was not on the hikers' side with rain. Last weekend there were around 240 registrations from 21 clubs, the interest of the population was great, which was reflected in another 150 spontaneous hikers. Event manager Manfred Schreff was pleased with the high number of participants, despite the unpleasant weather, which did not dampen the joy of experiencing nature. A group of nine from Crailsheim traveled an impressive 270 kilometers by bus to take part in the event, which immediately created a good atmosphere.

The hiking friends Himolla, who have been active for over 50 years, had everything well organized. To their great support, around 20 of their members were available to make the day as pleasant as possible for the participants. Various offers were provided to ensure the physical well-being of the hikers. In order to meet the needs of the participants, three different routes with lengths of 5, 10 and 20 kilometers were developed, some of which were slightly on top of each other to make selection easier. Sepp Wegmann and Reinhold Huber successfully took over the planning, construction and safety checks of the routes. These are also available in the route planner app Komoot, which makes hiking a year-round pleasure.

A goal for the community

The main goal of the hiking day is to bring people from different regions together and to promote the experience of nature. Mayor Stefan Haberl took over the patronage for the first time this year, bringing not only local politics but also the community together. The event deserves attention because it not only ensures physical well-being, but also offers the opportunity to socialize. According to the “Wanderfreunde Taufkirchen” association, hiking is an excellent opportunity to exercise in the fresh air, which not only benefits your psyche but also your health.

These health benefits should not be underestimated. Women in particular benefit from regular hikes. Studies show that just a few hours per week can promote weight loss. Broken down to facts: Women who walk for over 2.5 hours per week can reduce their weight by an average of 1.8 kg - an impressive, motivating achievement. In addition, every distance covered means an increase in calorie consumption, which varies depending on intensity and body data, but is high compared to other sports such as swimming.

The winners in the spotlight

The Binataler Wanderfreunde Gangkofen from the Rottal-Inn district won first place at the Hiking Friends Himolla. Its chairman Ludwig Wimmer has been active in hiking days since 1972 and was very happy about the victory. However, he noticed a decline in planned hiking events in recent years, which is why the positive impression from Taufkirchen is all the more valuable. The association does everything it can to keep hiking attractive for those interested through monthly regulars' meetings, and the announcement of the hiking day can always be viewed on its website.

Overall, the hiking day impressively shows that sport and community go hand in hand. The Himolla hiking friends have clearly proven that you can have a fantastic day even in adverse weather conditions. For the next events, one can only hope that the weather cooperates better and that even more people discover the joy of hiking.
