875 years of Schwandorf: The big anniversary celebration is starting soon!
In Schwandorf, which is proudly celebrating its 875th anniversary, preparations are in full swing. The festival tent will be set up in Unterschwandorf this week to provide an atmospheric backdrop for the big anniversary weekend. Mayor Roland Hölzle and his deputy Markus Häußler do an excellent job in planning, supported by numerous board members from various clubs such as SV Oberschwandorf, the Oberschwandorf Music Association, the Unterschwandorf Narrenzunft and the Unterschwandorf Cultural Association. Again Black Forest messenger reported, the marquee will have a capacity of up to 1,500 visitors.
The celebrations are scheduled for June 27th to 29th, 2025 and will mainly take place in Unterschwandorf. If you arrive by car, you will find plenty of parking behind the Lehr company. To make the journey easier for guests, a shuttle bus will be set up to commute from the city center and other suburbs. Around 180 helpers from the participating clubs are ready to put together an unforgettable celebration. The entire program can be found on the homepage www.875-schwandorf.de can be viewed.
Program highlights of the anniversary
Friday begins with a comedy evening where the well-known Hansy Voigt will perform. The Oberschwandorf music club is also taking part, and DJ Jogi will round off the evening with his after-show party. An exciting syringe competition follows on Saturday, supported by DJ Jogi as a pre-show. The band “Die Berghirsche” promises to provide musical entertainment.
Sunday is all about family and entry is free on this day. An ecumenical service begins at 9:30 a.m. and the traditional tapping of the barrel takes place at 10:45 a.m. Other highlights include a lunch, performances by the Oberschwandorf kindergarten and school as well as the Haiterbach town band. A hit coffee with Liane and Reiner Kirsten rounds off the jubilant Sunday.
Weather and economic risks
But despite all the anticipation, there are also challenges: the events are weather-dependent, which entails a certain economic risk for the participating clubs. The aim here is to make the best of the situation and maintain the festive mood. Because what could be nicer than celebrating together in a friendly atmosphere and honoring the history of Schwandorf?
