Family dispute escalates: fight at Schwandorf train station!

On Tuesday evening, August 13, 2025, a violent incident occurred on the train station square in Schwandorf that shocked those present. In a dispute between three Czechs, a 40-year-old and two younger men aged 28 and 49, the situation escalated so much that the police had to intervene. The reason for the argument was family differences, which resulted in a physical fight. The injured party suffered a bruised nose and several abrasions that required treatment. The two perpetrators fled in a car after the incident, but were quickly identified because the police had the license plate number of the getaway vehicle.

As oberpfalzecho.de reports, there were already tensions between the injured party and the 28-year-old, whose mother is said to have not been treated well by the stepfather. In order to get to the bottom of the matter, investigations are now being carried out against the two perpetrators for grievous bodily harm. A video of the crime recorded by an eyewitness is currently being evaluated to clarify further details.

Another incident in Schwandorf

But it's not just this incident that's causing a stir. There was already a physical altercation between three women in Schwandorf on November 28, 2024, which also took place at the train station. A dispute arose over a gold ring that a 32-year-old had found in a used clothing container. The women had originally planned to sell the ring together, but two older women demanded the ring from the younger woman and then hit her in the back of the head, which led to the 32-year-old being hospitalized. Here too, investigations into dangerous bodily harm were started, but the suspicious women had already escaped when the police arrived. [Merkur].

A social problem

These incidents shed light on a widespread problem: violence against women. According to Statista, domestic violence is a serious issue in Germany, with the majority of victims being women. In 2023, around 181,000 of the 256,000 reported victims of domestic violence were female. In many cases, domestic violence goes undetected because victims are often reluctant to report it out of shame.

Women are often the victims, and not just in cases of domestic violence. Sexual assault is highly gendered, and almost all victims of such crimes are female. This makes it clear that the fight against violence against women is far from over. Support services offered, such as the “Violence Against Women” helpline, are therefore essential. In 2023, this recorded over 86,700 contacts and around 59,000 consultations. A sad indication that societal challenges regarding violence against women continue to exist.

The recent incidents in Schwandorf are not just isolated cases, they are part of a larger context of interpersonal violence that needs to be addressed. The city and its residents are faced with the challenge of raising awareness of this problem and actively combating violence in all forms.
