Mighty Dogs welcome EA Schongau – winning streak continues!

The Mighty Dogs Schweinfurt come into the first home game of the main round with an impressive tailwind: nine wins in a row, eight of them in preparation, make the team excited for their first regular appearance in front of their home crowd. The big fight against EA Schongau is on the program on Friday, October 17th, 2025 at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. and fans can look forward to an exciting game. The first game of the season in front of our own fans is awaited with great anticipation after the ninth victory was celebrated last Sunday in Amberg in front of over 100 traveling fans Mighty Dogs reported.

But it's not just the winning streak that puts you in a good mood, the squad is also experiencing a breath of fresh air. With Yannis Steffens, a 19-year-old talent who is moving from EHC Bayreuth to the Mighty Dogs, a promising new signing has been signed. During the preparation, Steffens drew attention to himself with his strong performances - he scored five goals. Gerald Zettner, manager of the Mighty Dogs, praises Steffens' ambition and hopes that he can play a central role in the team, especially with a view to the upcoming play-offs. Bayern hockey reports that Steffens has adapted his school commitments to include ice hockey, which gives him additional focus on the sport.

Preparations and highlights

The Mighty Dogs have everything they can do for the weekend because all players are ready to play, with the exception of Moritz Schlick. This consistency will be crucial in order to carry over the positive results from the preparation into the main round. In addition to Steffens, the squad has also been strengthened by two new goalkeepers: Daniel Blankenburg, who returned from ESV Buchloe, and Michael Güßbacher from HC Landsberg. The team is supplemented by the contingent players Raivo Freidenfelds from Latvia and Lukas Skvarek from the Czech Republic, while Kurt Sonne has extended his contract, which should ensure stability.

The upcoming game against EA Schongau will be particularly exciting as new coach Christian Kratzmeir and several newcomers, including ex-Dog Yannis Steffens, will be on the ice. Among the new signings at Schongau, players who have previously shone in the league are also expected to return. ESV Burgau, on the other hand, is coached by Philipp Schnierstein and also has a strong line of goalkeepers with Roman Jourkov and Benedict Scheller. David Ballner, ESV Burgau's top scorer, is entering his seventh season and will try to give the Mighty Dogs a real challenge.

View of the main round

The Bavarian Ice Hockey League (Bayernliga), in which the Mighty Dogs play, is the highest amateur league in Bavaria and includes 16 teams. The league is organized by the Bavarian Ice Hockey Association (BEV). After EHC Waldkraiburg won the championship in the last two years, it is now important to see the title fight in the new year as extremely exciting. The best eight teams will compete in the interlocking round, while the weaker teams will have to fight to stay in the league Ice hockey statistics.

It is now time for the Mighty Dogs to capitalize on their great pre-season performances and delight the fans in their own arena on Friday. The focus is clearly on the first home game, while the head is already turned towards the next away game against the Eisbären Burgau on October 19th. The anticipation for the games is increasing and the fans can look forward to exciting duels in the Bayernliga!
