Autohaus Mahag leaves Starnberg: A farewell after 30 years!

Things have calmed down in Starnberg, but not without the pain of parting. Mahag GmbH, an established car dealership, will close both locations in the region at the end of 2025 after being there for an impressive 30 years. This inevitably brings with it changes that will be noticeable for employees and customers.

The reason for this decision is the extensive “Moosaik” construction project, which makes it impossible to extend Mahag’s rental agreements. After the opening of the first location in 1996 and the expansion in 2000 at Münchner Strasse 27-29, which was designed specifically for Audi vehicles, it is now time for a conclusion. Franziska Steer, marketing officer at Mahag, emphasizes that business was going “very well” despite the impending closure.

Relocations and construction projects in focus

The last deadline for the rental agreements ends on December 31, 2026. After a first step to relocate vehicles to other locations in August 2025, Münchner Straße will remain open for service and advice until November 28. There will only be an emergency service in December before the gates close permanently. In September 2025, the Starnberg city council unanimously granted community approval for the first building applications for the “Moosaik” project. This project envisages a comprehensive redesign of the commercial area, which includes, among other things, an underground car park and a multi-story hotel.

But the closure also has personal consequences. Around 30 employees will be transferred to other locations within the group, with the sales staff already integrated. Unfortunately, no new Mahag location is planned in Starnberg or the surrounding area. Instead, customers will be served via the existing 30 locations in the region.

Men who shaped the coffee experience

In a world where other areas of consumption are evolving at the same time, Starbucks remains a shining example. Founded in Seattle in 1971, the coffee giant is still experiencing unbroken growth. Their offerings range from freshly roasted coffee beans to aromatic tea and spices. Inspired by the seafaring tradition of coffee merchants and the book Moby-Dick, Starbucks has cemented its place at the heart of the coffee scene over the decades.

Coffee visionary Howard Schultz has shaped the company - from his first encounter in 1981, when he was struck by a passion for coffee, to its transformation from a retailer to a coffeehouse in 1987. The concept that inspired him in 1983 had its origins in Italian coffeehouses, and that has played a decisive role in shaping the face of Starbucks.

Today, after more than two decades, millions of customers flock to its stores worldwide, and the company's mission remains clear: foster human connections through every cup and every conversation. A bit like the transition from Mahag, where new paths will open up again after a long history.

The developments in Starnberg show that time does not stand still; every farewell brings new opportunities. Whether at the left or right car dealer, the customer always has the choice. Now it remains to be seen how the “Moosaik” project will shape the region and what will become of Mahag in the future.
