Three priests, one roof: This is how the Lords of Herrsching live together!
Three priests currently live together in a charming little house in Herrsching, in the old Höllrieglhaus: Dean Simon Rapp, Chaplain Manuel Reichart and pastoral intern Father Duns Helbero. This community was recently founded, primarily to accommodate the renovation of Reichart's apartment in Inning. Again Mercury reports, the trio has developed its own routine.
54-year-old Simon Rapp takes care of the shopping and enjoys cooking; You can often find him in the supermarket on Fridays. Your day always begins with a common prayer, Lauds, followed by a convivial breakfast before mass. The kitchen serves as a social meeting place. Reichart, who is still quite young at 29, often takes longer in the bathroom. This occasionally leads to humorous tension between the three. Another feature of their shared apartment is that they have an early bedtime ritual in order to be fresh and alert the next morning.
Community and collaboration
The community in the rectory should be further promoted. Rapp plans regular lunches with community employees to strengthen solidarity. The kitchen is also occasionally used by interns who provide culinary variety with international dishes. Rapp remembers the times when Father Pius from Ghana prepared lasagne and Father Duns cooked his delicious rice dish.
Next Sunday, October 1st, an ecumenical evening prayer will take place in the Catholic parish community of Ammersee-Ost. The evening prayer entitled “Together – Assembly of the People of God” begins at 8:30 p.m. in the St. Nicholas Church, Bahnhofstrasse 4. The event is part of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, which was launched by Pope Francis and is scheduled to continue until October 2028. The Pope will hold this evening prayer with representatives of all Christian denominations in St. Peter's Square in Rome, while Christians around the world will pray for unity in various places, including in Herrsching.
The synodal path of the church
The synodal process, which was initiated by Pope Francis in October 2021, aims to promote a new culture of consultation and decision-making in the Catholic Church. As the Augsburg Episcopal Church explained, the thematic leitmotif of the World Synod will be continued until 2028 under the title “For a synodal church: community, participation, mission”. On March 15, 2025, Cardinal Mario Grech announced that the synodal process would continue at regional, continental and universal church levels. The second session of the XVI. The Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops is scheduled for October 2024 in the Vatican.
These developments show how important exchange and community within the church are, especially today. The priests in Herrsching help set a positive example for the community through their daily work and personal interactions.
