New inn fesch on Kirchsteig: tradition meets modern cuisine!

An exciting change has recently taken place in Dießen am Ammersee. Peter Fleming (58) and Johann Eder (43) are now the new tenants of the traditional inn on Kirchsteig. This historic place, which has existed since 1681 and was rebuilt in 1881, will continue to operate under the new name “Wirtshaus fesch am Kirchsteig”. The successor quickly found its way on the recommendation of Dießen's cultural advisor Miriam Anton after the previous landlord Stefan Chitic terminated his contract.

The first impressions of the two Munich restaurateurs were promising: “We were immediately interested at the first viewing,” said Eder, who, as a trained chef, already runs the “Ederwirt” in Munich. The innovations include gentle and careful modernization in the dining room, in the adjoining room and in the hall. The latter is now called “Veronika-Fitz-Saal”, named after the popular actress, and will in future be used for meetings, lectures as well as private celebrations and cultural events.

Cultural highlights in the new inn

There are already some exciting events being planned for culture lovers. The CD presentation “Wurzelwerk” by Johannes Sift will take place on November 15th. On November 28th it gets loud with “Loisach Marci – Alphorn Techno” and the “Andalusian Christmas” on December 13th promises a festive atmosphere. A special highlight was the official opening on November 8th, which was celebrated with free admission and a performance by the Dießen Music Association band.

The two operators, who also run the queer inn “Wirtshaus fesch” in the Glockbachviertel, have shown a good hand with their concept. The new menu will feature Bavarian cuisine with fresh and regional ingredients, complemented by three different types of beer and selected house and organic wines.

The history of the inn

The inn, which is now under new management, not only has a long history as a catering establishment, but also reflects a piece of Bavarian culture. It turns out that stopping at Bavarian listed inns creates a special atmosphere. A new book entitled “Enjoyment with History” highlights the value of such traditional restaurants. It tells the stories behind the inns, offers information about their inventory and guest rooms and gives an insight into the region's delicious specialties.

With over 150 illustrations, the compact hardcover on 192 pages is an eye-catcher for every lover of Bavarian cuisine and culture. Such restaurants are not only places to meet, but also little stories that should be kept alive.

The new tenants of the Wirtshaus am Kirchsteig not only face the challenge of leading a traditional restaurant into the future, but also bear the responsibility of keeping the region's cultural heritage and gastronomy alive.
