In Starnberg, Ray Cooney's play “Out of Control” will cause laughter on many evenings. Today, on October 25, 2025, the Kolpingbühne Starnberg presents this fast-paced crime comedy, which offers the audience a deep insight into the chaotic complications of a political scandal. Mercury reports that Minister of State Richard Wilhelm tries to keep his affair with secretary Trixi secret. He receives support for his crooked tour from his secretary Georg Bittner, who is looking after a supposedly deceased private detective.
The situation escalates when unexpected guests appear at the luxury hotel where the minister is hiding. A body is discovered and chaos is inevitable. “Out of Control” not only addresses double standards, but also human weaknesses in a humorous way. The director is the experienced Josef Hiebl, supported by Claudia Fischer and Astrid Zandt, who entrust the ensemble with a precise and humorous performance.
A talented ensemble
The ensemble, consisting of nine members, hits the nerve of the times with a mixture of comedy and compassion. Oliver Schwab embodies the Minister of State Wilhelm, who is constantly on the verge of ruin and tries to cover his tracks with politicians' language. Hans Otto shines in the role of Georg Bittner, who alternates between misery and comedy. The lively Trixi is portrayed by Vanessa Lange, while Julian Ruppert acts as her frustrated husband.
But the other characters also contribute significantly to the dynamics of the piece: Barbara Schwab plays the minister's wife, Chiara Hanika plays the nurse Gisela, Roland Sprinkart the hotel manager and Thomas Rupprecht-Behrmann the waiter. The piece not only takes place in a fictional hotel, but also has clever local references that should be particularly well received by the audience.
