Ten years with heart: Aiterhofen's choir inspires in Geltolfing!

On July 24th, 2025, the “Yesterday's Schlagerfreunde” will celebrate a special anniversary: ten years of choral singing in Geltolfing! The choir meets regularly in the community center and is very popular. Not only does singing take place here, but also a lively community that connects people. And that doesn't just have to do with the soothing melodies, but also with the deep emotional connections that arise in choral singing.

There are already a few performances on the program in the next few weeks that highlight the musical highlights of the anniversary year. Particularly noteworthy are the contributions from Karin Höcherl and Marianne Kossok, who provide special accents with their mandolin sounds. A musical enrichment that expands the choir's repertoire with one or two beautiful pieces.

A place of meeting

Geltolfing, with its charming village community, offers the ideal setting for such musical activities. This community development also reflects the efforts of the parishes of Aiterhofen and Geltolfing, which honored the voluntary achievements of the members at their New Year's reception in the parish center. Manfred Sagstetter, spokesman for the parish council, emphasized the importance of community involvement, which applies not only to church activities, but also to choral singing. Here the tradition of singing is valued as an important part of cultural identity. Like a choir, it is the many voices that ultimately form a unity.

Another pleasing reflection of the reception was the nesting of two storks, Tassilo and Angela, on a fireplace. These birds are considered good luck charms in many cultures. Does luck also apply to the choir's efforts? A question that one can certainly ask oneself, because choral singing not only promotes a sense of community, but also preserves the cultural heritage of the region.

Preserve cultural heritage

But what is the magic of choral singing? According to an article by Interkultur, choral singing plays a central role in shaping national identity. It unites people regardless of age and origin. Choirs not only provide an opportunity to preserve traditional songs, they also create emotional connections and community pride. This is no exception in Geltolfing. The “Yesterday's Schlagerfreunde” embody this spirit by integrating old and new melodies into their performances, thereby keeping both the region's musical and cultural heritage alive.

In times when traditional musical works are often neglected, the choir's commitment is even more important. Choral music not only has a high value in general education, it also sensitizes the audience to cultures and their history. It is gratifying to see how this spirit resonates in the region and offers a platform for contemporary composers.

Finally, we can only hope that the “Yesterday's Schlagerfreunde” continue to inspire with their singing and master both anniversary celebrations and future performances with flying colors. Because as Interkultur's motto describes: “Singing brings nations together”, this also applies to the village community in Geltolfing - a place where music plays an important role.
