Repair instead of throwing away: Repair Café Straubing opens its doors!

In the city of Straubing there will be hands on again on Saturday, June 28th: This Repair Café Straubing opens its doors from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the rooms of the adult education center. Under the motto “Help for self-help”, the event is all about repairing broken everyday objects. Volunteers are ready to provide active support and share the experience that many things that we tend to throw away can be made functional again with a little skill and know-how.

Come by, bring your broken toaster, broken cell phone or wobbly chair and be part of this lively meeting! Visitors can actively participate at four repair stations to get things going again together with the experienced helpers. The repair areas include electrical, electronics, computers, furniture and bicycles and some might be surprised at how easy it sometimes is to bring something back to life.

Repair together

If you want to arrive with several devices, be warned: per person you can only bring one item for repair. Otherwise, friends and family should come with you, because you don't want to wait in line all the time. The stay is made pleasant by a cozy area with a reading and play area as well as the opportunity to relax with a cup of coffee or a piece of cake. Even though support from the repair team is free, voluntary donations are welcome mehrwertrevier.nrw.

The repairs are not only beneficial for visitors, but also for the environment: “In Europe, many items are thrown away that could easily be repaired,” explains a representative of the international network of Repair Cafés. This initiative was launched in 2009 by Martine Postma in Amsterdam. Since then, many people have realized how valuable it is to regain repair knowledge. Another goal is to encourage participants to lend a hand and appreciate the value of repairs instead of just reaching for the bin. Repair Cafés promote the appreciation of repair knowledge and practical skills.

A space for creativity and sustainability

The idea behind the Repair Café is to create a place where people meet to repair together. There is space not only for clothing or furniture repairs, but also for electronic devices, bicycles and toys. Participants are invited to help others with repairs or simply enjoy the atmosphere with a cup of tea. In addition, books on repairs and DIY are provided to serve as a source of inspiration regio-aktuell24.

In times of abundance and the throwaway mentality, it is important to create awareness of sustainability. Therefore, in the Repair Café it is important that visitors “take knowledge about repairs into their own hands”. This not only protects your wallet, but also makes a valuable contribution to reducing resource consumption and CO2 emissions.

So, join in, pack up your broken treasures and experience how much joy repair work can bring. The Repair Café in Straubing is waiting for you!
