Magical symphony concert delights Traunstein: standing ovations for the musicians!

An extraordinary symphonic concert by the music faculty took place in the auditorium of the Traunstein vocational school on October 25th, which already caused high expectations in advance. Organized by the Traunstein Music School, the hall was sold out and the audience could look forward to a musical highlight. Traunstein's mayor Dr. Christian Hümmer opened the evening with a warm welcome in which he paid tribute to the music faculty and its director for enriching musical life over the decades. The evening program was under the proven direction of Augustin Spiel.

The first part of the concert began with the overture to the opera “Hubicka” (The Kiss) by Friedrich Smetana, a work written in 1876. The plot, which tells of a bride who refuses a kiss before the wedding, created captivating moments in the hall. The audience saw how the protagonist joins a gang of smugglers and ultimately achieves a happy ending.

A masterpiece by Mozart

The second part of the evening offered a rousing concert in E flat major for horn and orchestra by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (KV 447, 1787). Interestingly, this piece was written for the horn player Joseph Leitgeb. Soloist Joseph Schallinger, music teacher at the Traunstein Music School, impressed with his inspiring and accomplished playing on the old French horn without valves. The listeners were thrilled by his skills and the intense musical performance.

A symphony for eternity

The evening was rounded off with the performance of Antonín Dvořák's Eighth Symphony in G major (opus 88, 1889), which the orchestra had rehearsed with around 40 participants from the region. In particular, the third movement, the Allegretto with the typical Bohemian dance in G minor, and the fourth movement, the Allegro ma non troppo with a triumphant trumpet fanfare, left a lasting impression. The concert ended with jubilant applause, shouts of bravo and standing ovations, which impressively recognized the great performance of everyone involved.

The audience's enthusiasm was palpable and the desire for further concerts by the music college was loud. The evening in Traunstein once again showed that the music culture in the region is alive and popular. The organizers can look forward to a continued positive response as long as the level remains as high as it was this evening.

A repeat visit to the sold-out hall cannot be ruled out for the Musikkollegium's next performance.
