Traunstein in election fever: A new district administrator will be elected on June 29th!

On Sunday, June 29th, there is an important election in the Traunstein district. The reason for this is that the incumbent district administrator Siegfried Walch was elected as a member of the Bundestag by the CSU. This change on the political stage provides a breath of fresh air and new opportunities. Around 144,500 citizens in the district have the chance to cast their vote and set the course for the coming years. Those eligible to vote must be at least 18 years old and have had their primary residence in the district for at least two months to be able to take part in the election. Information on this is provided by the PNP available.

As the Traunstein website explained, the election notifications have already been sent. Anyone who cannot make it to the polling station in person on election day has the option of requesting postal voting documents - either at the town hall or online. Expectations regarding the postal voting rate are around 50 percent. This option also exists for a possible runoff election, which could take place on July 13th if a majority is not achieved in the first round.

The election process and candidacy

Whoever can get more than half of the valid votes in the first round wins the election. Otherwise, voters must cast a simple majority in the runoff election. The new district administrator is expected to take office on July 2nd, provided the election is decided in the first round; otherwise on July 16th in a runoff election. The term of office of the new district administrator ends with the next regular district council election period in 2032.

A total of nine candidates are available for the election, which is three more than in the last election in 2020. It is noticeable that the FDP is not sending any candidate into the race this time. Among the applicants there are well-known faces, such as Andreas Danzer from the Free Voters, Sepp Hohlweger from the Greens, Heinz Wallner from the Bavarian Party and Dr. Ute Künkele from the ÖDP, all of whom have already appeared in other elections beforehand.

In the last election in 2020, Walch won the first round with an impressive 63.0 percent of the vote. The other placings were Gisela Sengl from the Greens with 16.9 percent, Andreas Danzer with 8.2 percent, Sepp Konhäuser from the SPD with 7.4 percent, Dr. Ute Künkele from the ÖDP with 2.8 percent and Christian Schunck from the FDP with 1.6 percent, like them Statistics Bavaria summarizes. Deputy District Administrator Josef Konhäuser calls on all citizens to take part in the election and emphasizes the great importance of this democratic process for the region.

For anyone who would like to find out about the election results, the district office offers relevant information on its website. It's always worth taking a look in order to stay up to date with the latest political developments and to be able to correctly place your own voice in the future.
