Discover green paradises: open garden day in Unterallgäu!

On Sunday, June 29, 2025, garden lovers in the region will have the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of special green oases. The Garden open day in Unterallgäu invites you to discover the diversity and beauty of private gardens from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (in some gardens until 7 p.m.).

Three unique gardens are available for viewing: Simon and Corina Keppeler in Mindelheim-Mindelau, Alexander and Amelie Sauter in Babenhausen and Manfred Pfister in Westerheim. Each of these gardens has its own charm and is equipped with different plants and design elements. The Keppelers rely on lean beds and a modern poultry breeding facility with a green roof, while the Sauters score points with a Mediterranean garden including antique accessories, walls and a pool. Pfister surprises visitors with hardy exotic plants, carnivorous plants and two impressive ponds.

A festival for garden lovers

Markus Orf, the district advisor, organized the event to offer ideas to garden lovers and to promote the exchange of gardening tips. It's not just about spending your free time, but also about meeting like-minded people. The gardens are worth visiting because each plant tells its own story.

At the same time, in Carthusian Garden In Buxheim, which was considered a highlight, additional gardens will be open to the public. The garden, which is maintained by Helga and Gerhard Walcher, offers a rich flora, from vines to herbs. This shows how monks in the past used nature for self-sufficiency and physical exercise. Other gardens can also be explored on the same day, such as the Bund Nature Conservation Nature Education Garden, which offers herb beds, orchards and even an adventure area for children.

Family friendly activities

The Garden open day offers a family-friendly atmosphere that enables even the little ones to learn craft skills and discover the joy of gardening. The Swabian District Association for Horticulture and Land Conservation organizes the event in collaboration with other institutions and ensures a varied presentation of the gardens.

For anyone who is interested in gardening or just wants to spend a nice Sunday in the countryside, this day is an excellent opportunity. Further information is available online at www.unterallgaeu.de/offene-gartentuer available.
