New window view project in Unterallgäu: Experience and protect nature!

In the heart of the Unterallgäu, the “We make landscape” campaign by the Unterallgäu landscape conservation association is currently underway. V. brought a breath of fresh air to the regional excursion destinations. This initiative is intended not only to shed light on the importance of traditional landscape management, but above all to make the beauty of nature accessible to everyone. Eleven selected locations in the district were equipped with wooden window frames that provide a unique view of flower-filled meadows, fens, orchards and idyllic streams. Here you can admire nature in all its splendor, without the usual stress of everyday life.

The window frames are positioned along existing excursion routes and remain in their locations throughout the summer. Visitors are invited to pause and consciously perceive the diverse landscape. But it's not just about food for the eyes: more than a third of local animal and plant species depend on human activity and, in particular, on careful agriculture. These habitats were created through traditional management and must be actively maintained. The LPV therefore organizes necessary maintenance measures where traditional management is no longer profitable.

Commitment to the environment

As the landscape conservation association's website shows, local family farms are involved in carrying out this work and also receive government support. They also act as role models in the region, for example by promoting ecological awareness through the creation of orchards. Biotope maintenance is particularly important for the preservation of rare animal and plant species. The right combination of location factors and centuries of site-adapted management play a crucial role here.

The “We Make Landscape” campaign is not only a platform for raising awareness, but also offers digital extras: QR codes on every window provide access to further information and image comparisons on the association’s website. For those who cannot find an LPV window, there is an online picture gallery that provides information about the diverse landscapes in the Lower Allgäu. If you would like to know the exact locations of the window frames, you can easily contact the association by email.

Financial support for nature conservation

The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) supports projects in the areas of nature conservation and landscape conservation with funding. These funds are provided by the Federal Environment Ministry and can also be applied for for locally oriented projects such as the LPV campaigns. Interested project initiators are encouraged to seek advice in order to gain access to the various funding programs that provide valuable support for environmental projects. Targeted planning and organization of the measures is essential in order to fulfill the funding modalities. Further sources of information can be found on the federal funding database.

The special initiative of the landscape conservation association not only changes the landscape, but also raises awareness of the value and importance of our natural environment. A small view through the specially designed windows is often enough to rediscover the joy of nature. The campaign offers a wonderful opportunity to actively engage with the topics of nature conservation and landscape conservation and to roam more consciously through the wonderful region.
