Triathletes defy the heat: TV Dettingen/Iller shines at the Erbach Triathlon

Last weekend, the Unterallgäu Triathlon in Ottobeuren became a competition of superlatives. Bright sunshine and high temperatures offered ideal but also challenging conditions for the athletes. Around 577 endurance athletes took part in the two distances – Olympic and public distance – for the 34th time. The triathlon has developed into a popular event in recent years, which certainly has something to do with the top-class participants and the perfect organization. This was led by Patricia Hess and Markus Empl-Fröhlich, who received positive feedback from participants and are already planning to organize the event again next year.

Particularly noteworthy is the performance of Rainer Aumann, who took part in the people's distance competition with TV Dettingen/Iller. With a time of 1:03:53 hours he took 4th place overall and won the AK50 age group. “It was a great race despite the heat,” said Aumann about the conditions, which were a test for many athletes. The people's distance competition included 500m swimming, 19km cycling and 5km running.

Erbach Triathlon: Record participation and exciting races

On the same day, another triathlon took place in nearby Erbach, which set a new record with around 1,200 participants. The water was so pleasantly warm that wetsuits were not allowed - a rarity in triathlons. This competition included various entry categories, including league competitions and Olympic distances. The athletes from TV Dettingen/Iller were also represented here with five participants.

Simone Aumann was particularly brilliant for TG Bad Waldsee, which took third place in the mixed league. The Dettingen triathletes also achieved impressive results in the popular triathlon, where 441 finishers took part. Here are the rankings of the TV Dettingen/Iller participants:

name Place Age group Time
Bastian Fischer 69 9. AK35 1:22:45 hours
Jörg Redle 71 13. AK30 1:22:58 hours
Klaus Fischer 149 11. AK40 1:29:04 hours
Oliver Veit 181 11. AK45 1:31:01 hours

Competition in the spirit of tradition

But it wasn't just the local athletes who benefited from the event: Linda Simon from TSV Oettingen secured victory in the women's Olympic distance, while Sebastian Schiele from RSC Kempten was clearly ahead in the men's event. The enthusiasm for triathlon has increased significantly in Germany in recent years. There are around 600 triathlon events across the country every year, with participation numbers constantly growing. The German Triathlon Union (DTU), founded in 1985, gave the family of this sport an important boost, especially by introducing it as an Olympic discipline in 2000.

For many amateur and professional athletes, the challenge of triathlon remains unique. From swimming to cycling to running, each part brings its own challenges. As was found in Ottobeuren, the heat during competition can be a real test of endurance. So the anticipation for the next competitions, which will certainly attract many athletes to the starting line, remains great.
