Bundeswehr impresses HPZ Irchenrieth with a spectacular troop visit!
On Thursday, June 17, 2025, the Major Radloff barracks in Weiden opened its doors to around 50 employees of the Special Education Center (HPZ) Irchenrieth. The occasion was a visit to troops by the Panzerartilleriebataillon 375 (PzArtBtl 375). The day was not only an interesting information event, but also an opportunity to strengthen the sponsorship between the community of Irchenrieth and the 1st battery of the battalion. Upper Palatinate echo reports that Lieutenant Colonel Hekja Marlen Werner warmly welcomed the guests and underlined the importance of this connection.
A varied program awaited the participants during the visit. The 1st Battery of PzArtBtl 375 put a lot of effort into presenting a variety of Bundeswehr capabilities and equipment. A special highlight was the opportunity to try out equipment such as protective vests, helmets and night vision devices. Guests were also able to take aim at digital targets in the shooting simulator. On top of that, there was an interesting demonstration of field rations for the soldiers, including the famous one-person packs (EPA).
Insight into the Bundeswehr equipment
The exhibition attracted everyone's attention, especially the Panzerhaubitze 2000, the main weapon system of the German artillery. With an impressive weight of around 60 tons and a firing range of up to 40 km, this device made a real impression on visitors. In addition, the guests were able to take a look at Bundeswehr trucks and the Marder armored personnel carrier, so that the technical diversity of the Bundeswehr was impressively showcased.
After a tasty lunch in the form of spaghetti Bolognese, prepared by the kitchen team of the 1st battery, all participants, led by Sophia Schleicher, the organizational manager of the day, received a certificate as a souvenir. Captain Tobias R. presented the certificate of honor personally. After an entertaining and educational day in the troop unit, the visitors were enthusiastic and full of positive impressions.
Future of collaboration
The event was not just a one-off experience. The cooperation between the PzArtBtl 375 and the HPZ Irchenrieth should be further strengthened in the future through mutual visits. This initiative underlines the Bundeswehr's commitment to society and shows that the doors of the barracks are open not only to soldiers, but also to the regional community.
The Bundeswehr offers many exciting career paths, including enlisted careers, non-commissioned officers and officers.
