There is a lot of music going on in Weilheim, and a long tradition has been established here, especially in the area of gospel. The gospel choir “Heaven Travelers” is one of the pioneers of this style of music in Bavaria. Founded in 1966 by Berthold Hellmuth, the choir now has around 35 active singers who come together on Mondays at 7 p.m. in the parish hall of the Protestant Apostle Church to rehearse together. These rehearsals are not only a musical obligation, but also a place of community.
The “Heaven Travelers” are known for their expressive gospel and spirituals, ranging from traditional to modern pieces. Under the direction of Adam Cory, the focus is on freedom and improvisation in the music. This creative approach allows the choir to tell the moving story of gospel music that has its origins in the era of slavery in America. Particular importance is attached to the balance between the voices, so that soprano, alto, tenor and bass sound harmoniously together.

A highlight for all music lovers in the region is just around the corner: On Sunday, November 9th, there will be a joint concert by the “Heaven Travelers” and the gospel choir “Happy Voices”. At 6 p.m. in the “Wendepunkt” in the Protestant community center in Huglfing, entry is free, which should give everyone interested the opportunity to experience the soulful sounds of gospel music live.
The “Happy Voices” choir and many other formations contribute to gospel music becoming increasingly popular in Germany.
