With 130 kilos of coffee: cyclists for sustainability from Hamburg to Überlingen!

The fifth eco-fair coffee cycle tour of the “WissenLeben” association started successfully in the market church of St. Agatha in Aschaffenburg on Sunday, August 31st. Twelve cyclists set out to transport 130 kilograms of Nicaraguan coffee from Hamburg to Überlingen. This environmentally friendly campaign shows that you can also think creatively and sustainably when transporting coffee. The coffee was brought sustainably to Hamburg on the sailing ship Avontuur before the cyclists continued their journey.

Part of the freight was handed over to the Weltladen in Aschaffenburg on Saturday. “Our goal is to increase the willingness to actively help shape a sustainable future,” explained Dr. Maiken Winter, chairwoman of the club and organizer of the tour. “We want to move from talk to action.” The association not only pursues environmental goals, but also deals intensively with issues such as climate change, nature conservation and biodiversity.

A shared breakfast and sustainability

After an eventful night with host families, the cyclists gathered for a take-home breakfast. On this occasion, further networks could be established and ideas for promoting organic farming methods could be exchanged. The cyclists were accompanied by Protestant pastor Karl Mehl, who reminded them of the responsibility of Christians to stand up for the planet. “This isn’t just about coffee – it’s about the future of all of us,” says Mehl.

The next stage of the tour will include cities such as Buchen, Heilbronn, Stuttgart, Tübingen, Jungingen and Pullendorf before the journey ends in Überlingen on September 6th. Anyone interested in traveling to Nicaragua can experience the development of coffee up close, from the bean to the cup.

Coffee from Nicaragua and its journey

Coffee from Nicaragua has a very special aroma and is often valued for its high quality standards. On a tour of Nicaragua, like about Loro Trips is offered, you can learn about the processes behind the country's coffee culture. From arrival at Augusto C. Sandino Airport to sightseeing in Granada to tours of coffee cooperatives, the diversity and dedication of coffee farmers is impressive.

For example, you have the opportunity to visit the Fairtrade-certified coffee cooperative La Solidaridad, which provides authentic insights into the work and life of coffee farmers. Visitors can not only learn how sustainable coffee is grown, but can also get hands-on – be it with coffee harvesting or roasting.
