Donations wanted: Catholic Day 2026 will be celebrated in Würzburg!
Preparations for the 104th German Catholic Day, which will take place in Würzburg from May 13th to 17th, 2026, are slowly gaining momentum. The organizers are the Central Committee of German Catholics (ZdK) and the diocese responsible for the organization. Now it's time to actively recruit supporters because the fundraising campaign has begun. This was recently done by cathedral radio announced. The money collected is invested in various areas that enrich the Catholic Day experience and promote social participation.
A central concern of the organizers is to make access easier, especially for people with low incomes. Discounted tickets are planned, which will benefit young people, students, the unemployed and families, among others. There is even free entry for children up to 11 years old.
A festival of diversity and faith
The Catholic Day is not only one of the largest events of the Catholic Church in Germany, the focus is also on exchanges about socio-political issues. Around 60 churches characterize the city of Würzburg, which creates the framework for a broad cultural program. The last Catholic Day took place in Erfurt in 2024 and had a great response with over 700 events. Catholic Day 2026 will feature immersive services, panel discussions, workshops, concerts and much more, all under the motto “Have courage, stand up!”
Over a total of five days, tens of thousands of participants from Germany, Europe and all over the world are expected to discuss religious topics and shed light on social questions. Hundreds of events are already being planned, and those interested can apply for the cultural program until June 24, 2025. Stands on the church mile can also be registered until September 17, 2025. More information can be found on the website katholikentag.de.
A view of the city of Würzburg
Würzburg is not only a bishop's seat since 742 and the former residence of the prince-bishops, but also a UNESCO-protected world heritage site. Special sights such as the Würzburg Cathedral and the Käppele will literally be the focus of attention during Catholic Day. The city itself will offer many attractions and also limited accommodation options. Guests should therefore book well in advance to ensure they can enjoy the full program.
Park & Ride offers are recommended when traveling to avoid the often busy city center traffic. Those looking for accommodation can find accommodation in large hotels such as the GHOTEL or the Maritim Hotel, while alternatives such as youth hostels and Airbnb make budget travel easier.
Finally, Catholic Day 2026 is an opportunity to gather as a community and actively participate in dialogue about faith and society. The event is a living expression of an engaged Catholic civil society and invites everyone to think beyond denominational and ideological issues.
