Rawetzer Volksfestl: New delicacies and music for everyone!

On June 18, 2025, Marktredwitzer Angerplatz is facing full-blown change. The long-held tradition of the Marktredwitz folk and shooting festival has to be paused this year for a particularly important reason: a comprehensive renovation of Angerplatz is preventing the festival from taking place as usual. Instead, all partygoers can look forward to the “Rawetzer Volksfestl”, which will take place from June 26th to 30th, 2025. This was explained in detail in an article by Wiesentbote.

The renovation measures, which included a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony by Mayor Oliver Weigel, are necessary to make the space safe and environmentally friendly for future events. According to Frankenpost, an enormous 250,000 tons of household and hazardous waste are stored under Angerplatz and need to be disposed of. The goal is to bring the festive place into shape so that celebrations can be held there safely in the future.

The program of the Rawetzer Volksfestl

The Rawetzer Volksfestl is held on Rößlermühlstrasse at the Auenpark and has a wealth of attractions. It starts on Thursday, June 26th at 5:00 p.m., and Mayor Weigel will take over the official beer tapping at 6:30 p.m. Culinary delicacies and a large beer tent with a beer garden await visitors.

The first evening will be accompanied by musician Marcel Benker from Kulmbacher Land. On Friday, June 27th, the party rock band “Himmelfahrtskommando” will bring a hearty piece of party spirit. Saturday June 28th will be musically diverse with DJ sets offering both current hits and the best hits from the 80s and 90s. Sunday, June 29th, is dedicated to Marktredwitz brass music, while the last day of the festival on Monday, June 30th, features a children's afternoon. Here, little guests can look forward to half fares on the rides, as well as reduced prices at game and merchandise stands.

At the crowning conclusion of the festival, all companies and clubs are cordially invited to round off the Monday evening with the band “Effi and Konsort’n”. The Rawetzer Volksfestl promises a colorful program that adapts to new traditional events and at the same time sets new accents.

Folk festival traditions and their meaning

Folk festivals, also known as fairgrounds, are not just a regional custom, but a central part of German culture. They often evolved from fairs and offer a diverse mix of rides and culinary offerings. According to Wikipedia, a well-attended folk festival in Germany can attract up to 500,000 visitors per day. Every folk festival lives from its own atmosphere and traditions, many begin with the traditional tapping of a beer barrel by a local politician, including the Rawetzer Volksfestl.

In a time of change and redesign, it is clear that, despite the challenges in 2025, the people of Marktredwitz are sticking to celebrating together and strengthening the community. There is great anticipation for the coming days - proof that a sense of tradition and innovation can go hand in hand.
